I just worked with a former "EAST" F/A - Many topics

I can not imagine a three or four day with fourteen hour hard-time. What is the FAA limit? Does HP have anything like our required S1,S2? What then is their duty-time limit?

There are no FAR limits for FA's. On the East, it's the FA contract that limits their flying in line with the pilots. On the West, their FA's routinely do "turns" from PHX to East coast cities. That's PHX-RDU, about 4.5 hrs,, have a 30 min. turn and fly RDU-PHX, about 5.5 hrs. That's a 10 hr one day trip. Of course the pilots can't do that, against FAR's. One thing though, doing a very high time 1 day like that builds time fast. I would guess with some of those in your schedule would mean more days off. We all complain about being productive at work, well here it is...

That may work for the kids you have on the West, but these Easties are old and tired, you'll be paying comp claims left and right when they start collapsing ;)

Yeah I was like WTF when I flew HP to Alaska a Few months ago. And they must have said 200 times its water or coffe only now.

I heard we are going to push/pull which thrills me to death, the water/coffee thing is stupid. Looking forward to the simplification of some of our rules and with any luck we can get rid of that CSI woman. A total witch!

How do they record 1/2 minis?

And

When they go through this verification procedure, do they have to talk out loud with the other FA saying, VERIFIED?

I guess you just throw them away. I don't do the 1/2 mini thing.

Verificaiton procedure...a joke. Someone else just signs it when they get around to it. Same goes with the headset money. You count each and every one of them and if you comp a headset you need to put down the seat number and reason. They just love paperwork! But disarming a door the 2nd f/a will say "preparing to disarm' and the 1st will say "verified" with hands up pointing to the door. Alittle tacky but less slides are being blown.

As far as I'm concerned, the reason should always be "Per Captain's Instructions". If management wants a rationale, I sure don't mind telling them it was because I just felt like doing it. All I ask is that the F/A's tell me that I "instructed" them to do it.

How do you HONESTLY  accurately count your headsets? I could barely even type that with a straight face. How are they boarded? At east on ANY video equipped a/c except for a few stray 737's there are headsets popping out of just about any compartment with a door on it. This includes empty meal carts, beverage cart baskets and seat back pockets. Oh yeah, the white trash bags on the floors too. We all know now at east that the liquor carts/kits are a total JOKE. If anyone EVER got called in about a kit or liquor count they would have virtually an impossible time proving anything. There are soooooo many hands in the cookie jar or access to it. I'd be like...pssssssh whatever.

"Today, I flew with a friend whose crew ended-up working a west a/c due to some irregularity."

I don't think so...East CAN NOT work West A/C! Just as West CAN NOT work East A/C.

This thread is NOTHING but a bunch of BASHING against West from some major East witches!

First of all…we here at West are very concerned and conscious of SAFETY and SECURITY. The reason that ONE F/A is supposed to stay in front of overwing is for security. It doesn't HAVE to be the 1st or "A". As long as SOMEONE is in the forward part of the A/C. Yes, we have a "Cockpit Door" proceedure that we take seriously. Again for security. Remember, that...Unfortunatly...we kept the US Airways name and have a big US flag painted on our aircraft. We could be concidered prime for terrorism!!! C'mon people, this is a NEW era we are living in!!!
Yes, that F/A picking up trash could have stepped two more rows back to take the ladies trash, but then someone two rows behind her may be flashing her trash for pick up as well. Before you know it…the F/A is now at the back of the A/C. So you have to put a STOP to it somewhere, and that is the OVERWING!!! The reason we have the door disarming procedure that we do is that it has reduced the inadvertent slide deployments tremendously. We ALL should know that a slide deploying could kill or seriously hurt someone either inside or outside the A/C. Yes the Airbus fleet and 757 slides are SUPPOSED to disarm when opened from the outside, BUT there have been cases where they have NOT!!!
I truly hope that when policies and procedures are changed and put into effect, that YOU ALL are mature and capable enough to accept them. If not, PLEASE leave or you will eventually be caught and hopefully disciplined or terminated for not doing so!!! You are in a whole new world now. One that is allowing you to still have a job. Please take that into consideration and STOP bashing everything about the West side!!!

East has a procedure for the guarding the flight deck door and we have procedures for arming and disarming the doors.

I always follow them exactly and have never had a problem.

As for the overwing exit bit, sorry I would have stepped over the line and retrieved the cup because they made eye contact and wanted me to take it. It is about customer service. To me, the minute I step out of the galley and into the aisle there is the danger that anybody in rows that I pass can make a run for the front. I do not see any increased danger or security risk by being in the aisle beyond the wing. Now if the "A" were to sit in the back galley that would be different. As long as somebody is in the aisle and monitoring the front of the cabin I cannot see how being 1 row, 10 rows, 20 rows, away from the flight deck door is going to change any outcome of a security risk. Being aware of your surroundings is the important thing here and it just sounds like the "overwing" rule is a visual reminder that should not be neeeded to remind people of their responsibilities.

As for the arming and disarming of the doors. I think that the punishment is the real key to the success of the program not the procedure. Drilling in the procedure and the punishment for not following the procedure and drilling in the punishment for blowing a slide is not done on the east. Yes, they drill the procedure but not punishment.

Liquor forms and headset - the rules sound the same more or less, again punishment seems to be drilled on the west where it is not drilled on the east.

Just my thoughts. Not saying one way is better than the other. Just what I think.

That goes for all of you too. Really doubt all the policies will be WEST!

And you too! What a Tool! Another Highhorse Air hostess. We all care about safety as well! We just don't go over the top with it.

There is some powerful Kool-aid in the desert. I hear the exact same theme over and over and over.
