I just worked with a former "EAST" F/A - Many topics

I wish I could tell you exactly what they do, but I was almost crying I was laughing so hard, I didn't get it all down. Let me tell you, when she got down on her knees and started crossing her arms, I almost peed myself--had the FA given me the whole mini, I probably would have.

I was speaking of the door arming process...not really a security issue!

Sorry, I thought you were referring to flight deck door procedures.

Most West FA's don't like that procedure either. However, it did, last that I knew, reduce slide deployments.

On her knees?

Clearly it's a bit much...when you have VFF's laughing at it!

What is your door disarming procedures? I've heard that the east has too many slide deployments that is why they are changing them.

East has had too many slide deployments which is why they are going to change to the west way. Of course, lots of things out west are going to change to the east way, no more exit seat briefings, HOORAY!!!

Would a WESTIE please go over the process for us EASTIES. I hear it is quite the process!!!

This is on the Airbus or 737s.

Basically, the first class flight attendant orders the coach (2nd F/A) to disarm the doors while she/he verifies. We say, "Prepare to disarm" and the first say "verified". This way, there are two flight attendants watching the disarming procedures. If the 2nd disarms the wrong handle and blow a slide, both flight attendants gets the month suspension.

On the bigger aircrafts like the 757, you basically talk to yourself. LOL

Uhh Huh...good thing I don't mind talking to myself!

There is so much dialogue going on about that door...that will last for about NEVER out East. By the time we are parked, the FA's are talking about shopping or what they are going to eat or their makeup or shoes.

tell him what happens when someone "misses" the "clear signal" from the cockpit and you have get on your knees and cross your arms and start screaming at the GA because the GA is going to open a door that you have now disarmed but you do not have authority to open.
That is a freaking riot.

Well then...it's a darn good thing that Airbus doors disarm themselves when opened from the outside.

At east where our a/c have a girtbar like the 737 we have to disarm the door then crack it at the gate. The agent does not open the door from the outside. You remove the strap and crack the door. The agent is not to knock on the door. The 757 and airbus disarm from outside if not from inside. Over the years at east we have had so many different a/c types that all had different door procedures. Then you fly the 757 or 737 for a month and all the sudden do a 767 in your 757 trip and your like   LOL. The best procedure regardless of east or wests is the flight attendant being responsible and disarming the door. We are so darn stuck on standing by the darn thing during boarding and not leaving that area....disarm the damn thing. It CAN happen....here's the trick. "DON'T LET IT HAPPEN". focus is key.
