Hostile Environment

As we all know the company has a new employee manual and harrassment policy. We must not operate nor condone a hostile environment. When you see hostile/harrassing stickers on jetways, bags etc. get them removed before you proceed into this environment.

If that means stopping an aircraft before pulling into the gate then so be it. If departing a gate ensure no hostile/harrassing stickers are in view.

On the Wings website you can download the harrassment form under Human Resources Forms-General: select "OTHER" on the form and detail the hostile/harrassing situation.

This childish behavior must end.
Sorry. It is time to cowboy up just a little bit.

Before you go getting yourself all worked up about what anyone “thinksâ€￾ is a hostile work environment. Check with the new female attorney. She can explain what is and is not a hostile work environment.

From the LGA update:
USAPA Legal Consultant Laura Backus gave the BPR information on Hostile Work Environment. Your Reps have received numerous complaints on perceived offenses from pilots visiting the PHX crew room. We were advised that, as disturbing as this can be, it does not fall under the guidelines of “Hostile Work Environment.â€￾ Take the high road. Ignore the derogatory flight bag stickers and walk away from any provocations.

Refusing to move an airplane because there is a sticker on the jetway could cause more problems than you think you will solve. Besides the constitution does not protect you from being offended. You choose to be offended or not.

Freedom of Speech only applies to the government restricting your speech, not the company you work for.

Just like US has a policy that you cant speak to the media on behalf of the company nor can you identify yourself on a message board as an employ, two legal policies under the law.

You hit the nail on the head. I find it amusing that people seem to flaunt this "freedom of speech" constitutional right in the wrong context(s).

I'd agree that any professional should just and can easily ignore such nonsense. Personally...whenever I see cutesie-pie little stickers and such..I just wonder if those responsible have parents that know their little ones are out impersonating pilots......

I would never refuse to move an airplane over something like this, it wouldn't be fair to our customers. I just either remove the stickers if I can, or call and tell someone else they need to be removed. I don't think airing your issues with your coworker in public is right either. Believe it or not, people look at and make a judgement about the pilots that fly their airplanes. There has been a lot of public childish behavior on both sides of this fight.

Agreed.

R we still in High School?

If you’re in an Airline union many still act like it.

I was on a flight that right at push the Pilot went into full blown hysterics yelling at an express pilot and insisting that he move to the last row of the aircraft, he was sitting in first. After that outburst was over the lady next to me asked the FA what that was all about and she said union stuff. I added this is the only industry I have seen that people still act like 12 year old boys. It is silly but soooo true.
