Are PSA's aircraft still going to MESA? If so, why is PSA hiring 15 pilots per week from now until the end of time (or it seems like).

DorkDriver:

US Airways management told LGA based pilots earlier this year PSA would be sold, probably to Mesa. Time will tell...

One of the reasons management pushed for LOA 91 was to divest of the "wholly owneds" and for that matter MDA too, which is included in the agreement.

Bruce Lakefield told ALPA that US Airways was going to meet its June 30 ATSB loan guarantee covenant, but he was unsure about the September 30 covenant. If US Airways has trouble lowering its labor and overall unit costs between now and then, PSA, Piedmont, and MDA could all be on the block.

By the way, if PSA is sold, which I still believe is likely, then the "15 new hires per week" and the APL pilots would be transferred to the acquiring business enterprise because the aircraft would need pilots to fly.

Respectfully,

Bunk...... LOA 91 was to get the CRJ-700's in the air so GECAP wouldn't bail on us as they own all of the CRJ's. The ERJ's at MDA are a little different as GECAP will only own 13 of the 85 when all is said and done.

As for a sale, I have heard rumors of PSA being sold as they are the most junior pilot group and also have the CRJ's which are what everyone else flies. I doubt very much that PDT, or for the matter MDA (whose employees have PDT payroll #'s) will be sold. MDA/PDT it has been whispered could be a very nice IPO?

Who knows, not anything on this board is more than conjecture on the part of those who partisipate in the place of professional help.

I hope Mr. Lakefield is the answer. I hope all of the unions are level headed enough to realize that to play ball the Pittsburgh Steel Worker way is only going to lose the game in the end. Those days are gone and for the very same reason both Pittsburgh and the Steel industry have moved elsewhere.

Best to all.....

I hope PSA gets sold, that way we get to keep the CRJ-700s and we don't have to deal with the attempted extortion from the mainline pilot group.

Fight the power!

Why don't you let them havee a 100% of the 70 seat flying since they brought those jobs with them and it was thier routes, scope and flying. Then you won't have to worry about a ny seniority issues.

LOA 91 provides specific language for the sale of PSA and MDA aircraft with APL pilot transfers with the aircraft.

Does US Airways want to sell PSA or MDA? No, but if the company needs cash to meet loan guarantee requirements than I suspect a transaction will be completed. Regardless, senior management told LGA based mainline pilots this could occur.

Because they weren't their routes.....those are aircraft beyond their original fleet count, and ANY RJ not owned by USAIRways mainline which is flying a route that was at anytime in the past operated by USAIRways with a larger jet is just another bit of oursourcing. You know, the mexican engine in your canadian built ford which isn't half the quality as the ones which were built in Deerborn or Detroit. You can buy a BMW or Toyota with more american made parts than a ford or chevy. Same thing with USAIRways, when you buy a tickett you have as good of chance of being on PDT/PSA/Mesa/Chataque/TransStates/Shuttle America/Colgan/AirMidwest, or any host of other affiliates who provide a product packaged the same as USAIRways with varying quality from the mainline product.

Its just a fact, oursource the whole airline and you will be cheap and thus have to be cheap as the product will be less than the premium which USAir is known for.

You get what you pay for. Walk through a terminal and look at uniforms...... A pretty accurate representation of the product you will get when you get on the plane.

Not pro or against the affiliates, but realize you may just get what you ask for.

You say they own the scope and brought jobs with them. Here is the issue I have with that way of thought. The only jobs they brought with them was jobs for themselves. I had a job before APL pilots came and it has been nothing but a hassle since they came.

In addition, U pilots owned the scope with U management, not PSA pilots. If U mgt wants to break the scope clause, then U mgt should give something up, not PSA pilots.

Also, PSA owns the scope that states that any aircraft on property at PSA will be flown by PSA pilots. We are only wanting to abide by the original agreement that was forced on us to begin with.

Why does U ALPA want to change the rules 3/4 of the way through the game? Why become a whining sniviling self-agrandising prick?

U ALPA made up the J4J program - now just stick with it and shut up or go to MDA.

Thanks,
Gr8ful

Because if the aircraft are on the property of PSA airlines and not being flown by PSA pilots then there is a definite seniority issue going on.

Because there aren't even enough J4J guys and gals at PSA to staff at 100% (moot point anyway because of LOA 91). Heck, you guys can't even get enough people to staff the 70 seaters at your "own" regional airline. If you want seniority then go to MDA, there's plenty of room!

Because if the aircraft go to MESA then the U MEC won't get any seniority at all for your pilots. And that is fair to us how?

We are sick and ficken tired of the Mainline MEC stepping on us. If you want something for relaxing your scope get it from management.

The PSA negotiating commitee has at least attempted to offer solutions and bargain in good faith with the U MEC, however the mainline MEC has not done the same. So f'em!

Peace!

The U MEC has told management the price of the 70 seaters to be flown at PSA. 100% or 50-50 with a slotted seniority arrangement. The U MEC ought to say if we don't get what we want for our guy'sto heck with PSA and we'll try to get them at MDA or Piedmont (with an acceptable deal) during the transformation negotiations. Your career expectation was to be a dork driver (and for most of the PSA pilto group to get the hell out as fast as you can to a real job even if you won't admit that). just getting the 50 seaters and the associated growt and upgrades as well as payrates for a group of your seniors was a windfall. That is what you got out of it. From what, enjoy it while it lasts becase in all likihood with the 70 seat, scheduling, and dispatch fiasco's the brakes are about to be thrown and the train may be heading for a screeching halt.

Peace BudEE

Bud8EE,

You must be living in a dream world. Are you still at mainline or on the streets? I wonder.

This has been no windfall. There have been NO upgrades for three years at PSA; except of course all of the APL pilots. I am flying with a APL Capt this month who was a FO last month. I flew with an APL Capt, who had NO PIC time prior to being handed the left seat at PSA in an RJ. NO PIC!! And this guy goes ahead of me. I have 400 hours jet PIC in the AirForce, and I have to watch less qulified pilots walk in front of me because they have been pulling someone else's gear for 10 years. I pulled my own gear in a single-seat fighter.

Yes, I want to get out of there as soon as possible, but that will never happen if I continue to let guys stand on my shoulders. And by the way, why not have a little quality of life while I am at it? Is that too much to ask?

I will also ask this, why is it so important to have slotted senority at PSA? Why not at MESA? I ask again, why do you want to change the rules half-way through the game?

If you are in favor of setting a precedent of slotted senority, then what will you say if US Air were to buy some other airline and then slot those pilots ahead of you. You would have set the precedent for all future mergers in the airline industry. Quite a heavey thing to think about, if you are able to think of someone other than yourself.

I am not a pilot or FA, but work with them everyday and with the exception of a couple of guys, I never yet ran across a mainline US pilot who thought of anything BUT HIMSELF. Kinda like a little king complex I guess.

Thanks for the replys USA320.

To Bud8EE: I hate to say this, but what still amazes me is the arogance of the mainline ALPA pilots who feel that they still control where aircraft are placed within the U Group system. Bud, the scope that almost killed this airline is gone. Do you honestly think that U Group will (can?) spend any of our precious resources to add a new type of aircraft to the MDA (mainline) operation, let alone at any other Express carrier. We have less than 70 J4J pilots currently as PSA flying the line. Well over half of those 70 pilots are line holders, all are captains (or are being paid captain rates), and most will go on to MDA when their training freeze is up. When J4J was accepted by the WO's it was a major gamble, and for some it may never pay off. MDA can not even fill their own captain slots with pilots from the APL, so why do 70 pilots need special bidding rights at PSA?

Actually all Captain slots have been filled by APL pilots and there are 80 to be released between now and September from MESA who have a MDA preference.

Scope didn't kill US Airways. 16 Years of bad managent from Schofied bungling the mergers, through Wolf & Gangwall's package and sell, to Super Dave's "shrink to fit" regimes have tanked US Airways.
