Oh lord how I want those 20 seconds back!

Nothing worse than reading an inbred's rant.

Lack of leadership imperils American Airlines' future

A merger with US Airways, one analyst wrote, could create $1.5 billion in synergies.

For those at American who say bankruptcy wouldn't be much worse, imagine thousands of job cuts and the Fort Worth airline being run by a company in Arizona.

US Airways State of the Airline Q&A: October 27, 2011

Q. Are we still looking to merge with another airline? If so, would it be American?

A. At the 3Q11 State of the Airline Doug said, “We have certainly seen an increase in speculation regarding US and American as a result of problems at American and what may be their solution. We don’t comment on speculation like that but I’d add that US Airways works as a standalone carrier and our results show that we can last as one. AMR needs to get their problems solved and, once that is done, maybe something would make sense down the road, but right now their problems won’t make anything better for US. We would all be happy to be the standalone airline that others would look to us to help them out as opposed to the other way around. The way to do that is to keep running a reliable operation and take care of our customers so that we remain profitable and in a position of strength.”

Once AA's problems get solved, they look alot more attractive to alot of parties, including other airlines that have much deeper pockets than US.
I would be quite surprised if US succeeds in winning a bidding war for AMR if they come up for sale after cleaning themselves up...they still possess a number of very attractive assets that other carriers and other investors for which US would likely be outbid.

To me AA always fell into that "too big to fail" category of business. Similiar to banks and automakers they have that way of bending the rules whenever need be to survive.

except that some of the greatest names in aviation have failed... in fact there are more "once great" names that are no longer here than not.
There have indeed been some rather spectacular failures and buyouts in the banking industry even if the already very concentrated auto industry has not consolidated much more than it is now.
It also doesn't change the fact that AA is still quite asset rich and also in the unique position of being substantially weaker than its peers, which means it will be more of a target for preying on than other carriers were, esp. during the last round of bankruptcies.
I'm sure if AA can't fail to turn the company around very quickly and convince the creditors that mgmt has a very solid plan, AA will be sold to other airlines... but based on history, the chances are quite high that mgmt will succeed in convincing the creditors that they can turn things around. If AA fails to thrive after a restructuring, then all bets are off.
And of course if labor decides they don't want to see AA succeed or competitors are as aggressive as I think they might be, then AA's best efforts might not be enough.
.
Whether US will be in a position to capitalize on anyone else's misfortunes will be the several billion dollar question.

Unlike your take World, the conventional wisdom in the press has always been that the last folks left standing at the dance, no matter how ugly, would get their turn. Problem is AMR will indeed get the much needed makeover in a single BK that U has still been unable to complete in two. AMR will dance, but not with Parker. U and AWA tried a go ugly early hookup almost a 7 years ago, and are still driving to the motel. They hate each other so much it looks like no Waffle House visit in the morning.

US Airways is now so toxic I see no way any other labor group or management, with any choice at all, would want to be a part of it. Look at the successful job the DAL employees did in conjunction with management in 2006 at fending off the fawning a pawing of Tempe. They said a collective “yuck” and no matter what the economics of the deal..it was never going to happen. Those of us in the trenches here at U have heard stories over the years (UAL and Buffet) that were similar, that did not even require the employees to become involved. “Yuck” again at any merger with an airline that limps on after 6 years with no merge of its last two victims, an airline where the employees are the enemy.

Sad thing with AMR is they were only ones to do the ethical and moral thing and not screw their stockholders and pensions. I know Wall Street does not reward such behavior, but surely they will at least give them a little good will going forward. Such good will would not put U in the driver’s seat of any deal.

I have a gut feeling DAL is not done yet, and will not sit idle leaving UAL as the biggest airline, and watching SWA proactively complete their own successful merger.

Unlike the postcard, would not wish you here. So sad we have such a bad situation ....that our best hope is to be broken up.

God forbid. I don't think this company could survive the spectacle of another DUI by YKW(You Know Who) followed by another incarceration at the womens detention center.

Oh the humanity!

How long did it take you to come up with that gem?

I applaud you for the hours of effort you put into that reply.

Now take a breather.
Not all of us are paid to live on this forum and actually have chores not involving a computer. The fact that I post something you cannot handle a couple of hours after you post something would usually indicate that your conclusion, as usual, is the result of your immaturity and just, frankly, stupidity.

Like I said before, try coming back in about 20 years, when you might be able to talk like an adult, finally.
