Emb 170's In The Air

the turtle.

Gotta keep those engines from dragging the tarmac - course they're smaller engines than the 319. Overall height (tip of tail) is 7' less, top of cabin is 11' - about window height on 320-series.

Crew paychecks are about %50 shorter than the 320 series. ;)

I can't help it, I've got to keep beating that drum.

Depending on which side of the cockpit door you're talking about you're being optimistic. Front end is about 65% shorter. If it's still around in 12 years, your percentages will be about right.

Why such excitement about a profession killer?
There is excitement because this thing has been hyped so much in the last year that the anticipation by those who are going to work it and fly in the back on it has reached its boiling point. If this aircraft is all that Dave and company have hyped it to be, then the company will be rolling in dough. After all, who, if any of us, thought that MCI would be one of the first cities it would go to? For those of us in the back, such as PineyBob, it might be a pleasure for a change to fly on an express carrier with a crew that knows how to be professional in appearance and demeanor. For those who are going to be working it, such as Colby and LightYears, it gives them a chance to do what they love, to fly, even if it's for less than accustomed.

If one is to really look at the E170 and MAA, US on paper has appeared to do what the other's have failed at -- to create a LCC within the airline.

For better or worse MAA and the E170 are US Airways last best hope.

Thankyou for that........

Nice way to put it.......... TRUE !!!!!!!!!!

i think someone said this before and i totally agree. the f/a's who are going to work for maa are not being forced to go work there. they have a choice to go or not . if they do not except employment at maa they still have recall rights at mainline. therefore, the employees at maa, f/a's that is. know what they are getting themselves into. they know they are taking a big cut in pay. on the brighter side the working environemnt at maa wil be a good one because it will be staffed by layed off young employees who like to have a good time and i am sure will make the best of it. just my opinion.

That is true- everyone at MAA will be furloughed mainline people who have chosen to staff the small jet division- rather than everyone being forced into it.

And yes, it will be fresher, junior F/As who obviously love thier job enough to return to a mainline like job for sub-Express pay. There will be two in the cabin which is a neat dynamic. The pilots will be the younger, more down-to-earth and diverse group that flew the F100s, DC9s and Metrojet.

They will be flying a single type that is brand new and innovative. They wont be flying to podunkville, in fact theyll probably lay over in the same places they used to on the 737.

Many people will already know each other from Airways, and bonus, dont have a buy a new uniform or start from scratch with training.

There is no question that the pay rates and its effect on the industry are devastating, but again, most of the MAA employees werent around to vote on it. I hope everyone at mainline will be supportive of their MAA borothers and sisters (although, ask a senior mainline F/A what a W/O is or to name an Express carrier and they'd likely be clueless).

But like everything in life there are good things about it like I listed above. Let the employees make the best out of it and please support them.

I'll tell you one thing, I'll bet a MAA layover will be alot of fun. These crews are just waiting to get back out there! ;)

I agree. I worked for an express outfit. I ended up leaving for Mainline because of the overnights and hated working alone.

I think the 170 will end up working the shuttle routes and other choice cities that the 737 once serviced. Also, it will be great to work with someone around your own senority-no bitterness, not as much, I should say. Although MAA pay is bad-at least Mainline is at the end of the tunnel. (Hopefully). And at Express-you were stuck there forever.......

It'll be great to be in the air again and working with someone you already know. I think the overnights' are going to be one damn good time........Slam Clickers? What's that? ;)

I think "Mid" is such an appropriate name. I also started at an Express carrier, and MAA seems to be the "mid" between Express and Mainline.

So, my question is, what will the slang term for it? Mid? MDA? Or will it take over the title "The Division" from the ITD? :D We can all drag around a big green bag that says "Aeroboutique du Albany".

Oh, there will be no slam-clicking! No such thing! The Mid-eligible F/As are a GREAT bunch to hang out with...

 Fly around on a cool new Ejet all day, hang out with the fun stews at night- sounds great! Its like Airways with a nicer plane and no worries of encountering a dragon on the next jumpseat! Now if we can just fix the pay....

I like "the division". Although there could be some confusion as to which one you work for. Having said that. I think we all know it would be very easy to determine who worked for the Transatlantic Division and the MAA Division. I'm going to be nice and leave it at that......Did someone say we had left over meals???

You guys.....if it gets to the point that you have Transatlantic sitting on MDA jumpseats I doubt U will even be in existance then. And there are quite a few "elderly" furloughed F/A's out there. U hired a lot of older guys and gals. Before the big lay offs I flew with alot of new hires that were older than me.

Best of luck to all of you who are waiting to Fly again. :D In my opinion and what I have heard out there on the line, I doubt that many Pit based mainliners will opt for MDA if they are commuters. Too many are fed up with what is going on. I for one will not take the option if I should get furloughed. Which looks like it could be right around the corner. :(

Theres a huge difference between old and senior... I love that in the airline world there are no ages, only seniority... age never matters. ;)

Crazy8- LMAO!!!!!!!!!

Domestic: I hate that for you!
International: Let me plate that for you!

When I hear "The Division" I think of the show on Lifetime, I think Jo from The Facts of Life is in it.

A friend of mine who flies Express now told me she is no longer a flight attendant, she is a "Prop Tart." I thought that was cute!

Kt- Even if you were to be furloughed (I hope not!) and didnt choose Mid, at least come visit us! :)

I was talking about the size of the dresses. Age is something you have no control over.... ;)

Right on, fixer.

I am lost on the glee and excitement over this. I have more I'd like to say but I'll exercise a rare moment of self restraint and just leave it alone.

I always got a chuckle out of this one: "Love your hair....Hate your face".
or this one...."how do you know when a Clt F/A has speared the fruit??? She will say...."It's allllll Set Up". Of course we can't spear the fruit anymore. DARN! They took off our little white stirs sticks.
I think I would like to be Young and Senior. That sounds good. ;)
