East recalls

Just wondering what you guys think about possible recalls this year. With the new intl out of charlotte and the summer schedules in Philly what do you guys think about recalls anytime soon. With normal attrition it seems like something has to give soon. How long can this company stay stangant. Is this just wishful thinking on my part? (I am a reserve). Hoping for the best!!!!!

A recall is absolutely necessary. The company is extremely short in CLT and DCA is flat. As for PHL it's a mess. The company is IMO going to have to recall. There are around 500'ish on voluntary. I doubt they'd get over 200 to come back. Maybe but I doubt it. If the company is going to recall they better move and move fast. IMO it should have been done in April. Hell they will have to get the letters and packets sent out, requalification training conducted, etc. They couldn't get the recalls on property before July 1 at this point. Hell they'll recall then be overstaffed for the t/a pulldown for the fall. Oh and FYI the most junior on VF is in the 1997 seniority up from there. It won't help those that flirt with a secondary line thats for sure. This place is a mess as usual.

Looks like the co. is covering the flying by increasing the monthly caps and giving tdy to intl crews.
Also, with the reserves having no monthly limits besides FAR limits, I don't think they'll recall.

As a reminder, only moderators can start labor related threads. Being that this may be a general topic and not limited to one workgroup, we will see where it goes. If it remains specifically about one group, it will be closed with the discussion continuing in the relevant workgroup's existing thread.

Thank you.

Only a handful of FAs are breaking guarantee in CLT. None are in DCA. They won't expand and offer more lines for all the extra open time. We don't need bodies we need better schedules. There is no accountability for the actions certain employees take which is then taken at the expense of others.

IMHO, the company's shooting itself in the foot at the expense of the FAs and other workgroups. We just need to be managed properly!

Ps. We don't have "Int'l Crews". And we certainly do not have any TDY open.

I'm willing to bet the house that a recall for f/a's is in the works. I'm also betting that out of the 500+ that are on the VF the company will barely get the numbers needed. What's next besides the VFLR or hiring off the street. We KNOW that nobody on the VFLR is coming back. You'd be nuts. All of this will be done only to be severely overstaffed in the fall. Let them shift flying and you'll see severe overstaffing and displacements. It never ends really.

I don't have the house (or any house for that matter ;-) to bet but I wouldn't be surprised at all! That being the case, if they decide to hire, the stuff will hit the fan! Those folks on VF have been long gone (though it would be really nice to see people junior to me for once ;-)))

If I (as a current employee) cannot break guarantee, oh as well as the 200+ people above me and you are still short, then's there something very wrong with this picture! And then in November they will furlough again and guess who gets to go home ................

Why can't we hire temps????

From a pilot standpoint, we do indeed have "international crews."

And, any time flight attendants fly with those cockpit "international crews," they get international pay even if it is a domestic leg or trip.

The company has PHL 330 cockpit crews (all 330 cockpit crews are international) on TDY in CLT for at least June and July to cover CLT 330 flying while the training department gets caught up filling the CLT 330 bids.

The fleet is more or less stagnant, and therefore there is little likelihood of flight and/or cabin crew recalls any time soon. There has not been a new pilot bid in months which means that the training department will soon have everyone in the correct position. Absent more airplanes and absent a "training float," staffing will be better in the near future rather than worse. It might not be adequate from the union point of view, but the company seems happy to live with its limitations. (And it's the company that does the recalls.)

My apologies, I should have been more precise. I was referring to the FAs as the FAs are qualified to fly all A/C as you know. There are FAs that have themselves "Self-qualified" as they "only" work TA flights. :D

Thanks for the insight from the pilots perspective. Interesting, indeed.

Of course my hope for recalls or new hiring is to GAIN SENIORITY.... Having said that...maybe they are finally getting things right. I broke guarantee in for the first time in 3 years. Im thinking of printing and framing the accomplishment.... Though I hate the system ,Id rather be flying like I did in May.. It felt like I actually have a real job....

Has the change in retirement age (to 65) slowed pilot retirements as predicted? If so, it could be another couple of years before the normal flow of retirements resumes.

UPS is talking about pilot furloughs, and blaming the retirement age change for part of the problem.

UPS has already given about 50 pilots in the Anchorage base their notice... it even got one of the Alaska senators to send in a nasty gram.

I think the biggest morale booster US Airrways can do is to recall some folks.... its been nothing but chop chop chop since the assimilation!

At US, absolutely. If you separate retirements from overall attrition (which includes medical and the unfortunate occasional death, it went from 100+ per year to a handful just on the East side.

Won't the spigot get turned back on soon? next year?

I am not sure what your seniority is Davo, but recalling senior people will not gain you seniority.. The only thing that will gain anyone anything is to diplace the junior people from DCA to CLT which in turn will cause displacement from PHL too. I see a lose lose situation all around here... :(
