Doogie gets arrested

It was quoted as three beers not two. Likely the bottom line of this will be a fine, increased auto insurance and other costs. DP will not lose his job. He will just suffer from being a high profile person making a dumb mistake. However if a regular employee drives a company asset while DUI they will be terminated.

It amazes me how some people on here compare DUI to a minor speeding ticket and/or just wanting to have fun. I hope you never lose anyone to a drunk driver or if you are a drunk driver you never kill anyone with your poor choices.

All - Been quiet for awhile, but needed to post on this topic. Have any of you even been to Scottsdale? The cops are RIDICULOUS! The FBR Open and all big events are fund raisers for the DUI task force. It doesn't take much at all to be pulled, and even less to be booked. Let's wait and see what the courts say before we convict.

One more thing - The report says he was pulled at 11:30. The FBR is in North Scottsdale where there are a bunch of poorly lit, straight shot desert roads, all marked at 45 but everyone goes much faster than that. Had he been going 45, he would have been pulled for obstructing traffic.

Well, he just lost 11 Billion dollars a few hours earlier. That would drive anyone to drink.

Either that, or he just got off a 2 hour 59 minute flight on a reconfigured 320 that left at 5:59 am so there was no catering, let alone podered milk, and he had to hold his winter coat in his lap the entire time because the emergency equipment and the FAM's briefcases were in all of the overheads!

Hopefully you will never have a family member of friend hurt or killed by an impaired driver. Makes you think different about people who put others in harms way.

Your thoughts and paryers should be that he was stopped before he could have killed someone.

I agree 100%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For what it's worth, .08 is very low and one could feel just fine but still be legally intoxicated. And, honestly, we've all driven when we shouldn't have ... it happens, some get caught.

What irritates me is the hypocracy of it all. Management holds us to unreasonable standards and they don't keep those handed down by the law. He may not even be charged, but if I were caught or suspected, they would make me blow in the tube right then and there. No waiting on a blood test...I'd get the breathalizer.

How come he gets special treatment?

I'm not going to throw stones at anyone (just powdered creamer)...we all make choices...and we all make some bad choices.

Was it a company car that he was driving? Is that true? If so, that changes a lot.

Certainly our thoughts and prayers go out to Doug and his family. The .08, and even .1 are way too low. .2 would be a much more legitimate BAC for a DUI arrest. Simply another indication of big brother and liberal organizations such as MADD taking control over our lives.

Possibly the most asinine statement I've read on an internet message board in a very long time.God forbid you ever experience the horror of losing someone close to you in an accident caused by a drunk driver.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Doug and his family?

Pffft.

Any other employee would lose their job for a DUI collar and he's "Aww Schucks" about it?

Only three beers? Ever notice the drunk on 'Cops' who can't stand upright or speak clearly has only had "Two Beers"?

As a former leo who has made many dui arrests as well as seen the results more than I care to comment on I have no sympathy for ANYONE who drinks then gets behind the wheel.

Hey all,

We all have more important things to be concerned with around here--I can't believe this is up to 6 pages already.....

We're all human, and sometimes we make mistakes....it happens.

Time to move on already.......

As in any family, you rally around a member that's in trouble.

Get well Doug.

Then, get about the business of making US Airways a World Class Carrier of Choice with an employee family that enjoys coming to work and is fairly compensated.
With a known drunk at the helm....

No way! Stay on target! This thread has just begun to smoke!

Hey, if Doug tries at Delta again, I say he gives it a cool code name with an accompanying acronym. How about Delta-Usairways-Integration, or D.U.I for short?

What special treatment? And, he wasn't "on the clock" or about to be on the clock.

Art,
There is a reason why this thread is 6 pages long so soon after the news has come out.
Employees see, yet again, two sets of rules.

Policies and Procedures Manuals AND the Company produced "Ethics" manual clearly state the expectations that USAirways has for its employees. Not just the rank and file but ALL employees.
If you hold employees to a certain level of accountability then an effective and respected leader would hold himself to the same (or greater) level of accountability.
The perception of unequal treatment of a serious lapse in judgement is the reason for the activity of this thread.

Yes, of course, people make mistakes. I am frankly shocked at how many people on this thread are minimizing the seriousness of this particular "mistake". People in a position of authority, especially in such a safety sensitive field SHOULD be held to a higher level of good judgement, forthrightness and yes, accountability.
