Listening to his lawyer??? I believe he had one with him and was one of the drunks he was driving home...

Think he could use some new representation...and rehab.
I don't think he's talking to that lawyer for what he's into now. Like I said, a few dollars spread around for cabs.

He did the right thing to refuse the breathalyzer...he probably knew he was borderline...he did the right thing

look, he screwed up...we all screw up...but for the grace of god go i...still, as the ceo he as to pay the price, but he can't be faulted for exercising his legal rights...

sky high states: I beg to differ, two AWA pilots were FIRED due to ALCOHOL.
only stating opinions

I am talking about getting a DUI. If a pilot is drunk and he is working, of course they will get fired. If they get a DUI while off duty they will not get fired. The AWA pilots you mentioned were under the influance while they were performing flight duties.Big difference.

Wasn't the whole New Mexico alcohol fiasco on January 31st? Didn't someone post that there was more behind the story? I wonder if it was that Doug got his DUI on the same day?

Yes They Did!! In Full!!
With money borrowed from a group of banks, which was paid back with money borrowed from GECAS, which is due in a lump sum payment in either 2008 or 2009. Had the DL deal gone through, GECAS would have been paid back with money borrowed from Citi et al.

So while the original ATSB-backed loan was paid off, the money is still owed. The principal payment was just put off.

That is not "Cost Neutral"

In this incident, I would say that Doug was "working". He was at an event representing himself as CEO of US Airways, a corporate sponsor of said event. While on "duty" he is drinking himself to intoxication and then driving a vehicle from said event.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

..... and you would have refused him and most probably lost your job????

Gimme a break!!!
Not likely, when he realized that he was intoxicated, he would comeback and thank the person. Most of your drunks are like that, at least the educated ones.

I agree. For a guy his size, three beers in two hours would be a non-event. I can see why he offered to drive. I wonder if the .08 was an instant breathalizer? If blood was drawn, that would be the determining factor; what was the alcohol level in his blood?

But 20 over the speed limit in a flashy BMW is just dumb when you've had ANY alcohol. Why not just put a sign on the car saying "Stop me, officer!"?

As someone else pointed out, an incident like this would have huge ramifications for a pilot. Back in my younger and "foolisher" days, I would think nothing of driving a car after two beers in three hours. But, like 99.999% of the pilots out there, I would NEVER dream of operating an airplane under those conditions. Yet the big-brother government insists that they are related. Nothing could be further from the truth.
A BMW in scottsdale is not "flashy"
