Chill out dude.. I believe, like Parker, that this industry is too fragmented with US still being the little guy. I think at this point consolidation is ineveitable.. Good luck to all of us and hold on too your hats...
Better hang on to your resume's, as alot of us will soon be sending them in the mail  Thanks DOOGIE ;)

Just trying to get a barometer of how people feel about this merger. With each passing day I am more opposed to merging with Delta, mainly because they do not want it, imagine trying to combine work forces, what a nightmare. The other reason is the downsizing of Charlotte, it will happen. The overlaping hubs do not make sense to me, Delta seems to be the most ilogical choice. It seems to me the main reason behind the merger is to gain pricing power in the market place.

What do you think?
WAIT!! Let me talk to my Red/brunette-headed friend to get the MERGER SCOOP!!!HEEHEE

Only an uneducated moron would wish for a merger.

DENVER,CO

Hmmm... how do you explain the many Harvard MBA grads in Wall Street who have been praising the movement towards consolidation? They may be 'morons' but they are educated ... and they wish, for their bonuses sake, that US merges.

(Sarcasm and humor intended)

Insread of forcing DL, talk to CO. They at least are "lukewarm" to consolidation.

I do think CO would make a better partner, ALL things considered. The senior folks at CO have known the bad times and have known mergers, both happy and not-so-happy. At least, unlike the Delta ostriches, the CO employees will realize that a merger with US would not be the end of the world as we know it. They probably wouldn't be particularly happy about the prosepct, but I think that, as a whole, the CO employees have a more realistic outlook on the "facts of life" in this industry.

I recently flew CO EWR-HKG-EWR on a real coach ticket. The service on the 777 was prompt, impeccable and quite comfortable, nothwithstanding the fact that for me 16 hours in any coach seat is akin to bamboo sticks under my fingernails.

Personally, I would be excited about a merger with CO, and happily leave the DL yahoos to themselves. And then SWA could just have their PHL gates as US international service dwindled to just a few "big city" destinations.

Too much capacity with CO having EWR and US having LGA.

CO/DAL...Too much capacity with CAL at EWR and DAL at JFK. What's your point?

sorry you feel that way, but times are changing.. the full service amenities of the past are being reduced for overall lower fares.. thanks for wishing the demise of 35,000 careers.

I'm going to have to defend the negative remarks of some of our ff's here. Through thick or thin, these guys have tried to accept the changes, but more and more the new team seems to be giving them the squeeze out. I think these frustrations have been building for a long time and finally many have had it. I wouldn't take it personally.

Here is the problem as I see it. DP was in such a hurry to merge the two companies that the expected problems just lingered. Example: When PI/US merged, there was a merger date where everything switched over to one USAIR. All procedures, manuals, uniforms, signage, cups, napking? Everything changed on that date. Yes, the first few days were a disaster as the computer crashed, but the way this merger has been conducted has left everyone confused.

DP's attempt to change everything to US Airways just isn;t possible. The customer doesnt understand why you cant get a boarding pass if connecting from east to west a/c. The f/c customer doesnt understand why you get glassware on west flights but none on the east. These are just little things, but rushing the merger has caused chaos. The ONLY thing they aren't rushing are negotiations.

Our FF's have been left out of the loop. If ANYONE in Tempe would take a moment to communicate and actually EXPLAIN the difficulties of, say, the website problem and provide a special team of res for our ff's during this time, MAYBE...just MAYBE we wouldn't get slammed with negative remarks.

Think about our frustrations as employees. You may find we have much more in COMMON with our ff's and many times feel the same way.

DL's JFK presence is mostly European and Transcon, something US does not run flights from LGA, only overlap is mostly the shuttle.

Just wait IF this DL thing were to happen "you ain't seen nothing yet".

I am in favor of a merger. Doesn't have to be DL. Any of the majors would be ok. It has to happen unless we want the airline industry to continue losing billions. Makes sense for a US-DL merged carrier to earn a billion a year rather than loose a billion a year combined on their own.

I think CO, NW or UA would produce a better route map for US than DL but that is not the main focus. The main focus is the earning potential of the merged airline. The US-DL combination must somehow make beter economic sense than any of the others, or Doug would have gone after NW instead of DL.

I have a lot of grave concerns with this merger. The route over lap for one.
And the fact that the Delta employees really don't want it and seem to hate USAirways.

Hey, we're not so bad. We're are a pretty nice bunch of folks. Even though I've seen some rather venomous remarks on the message boards on both sides, I really think too many beers were involved. (Maybe a few people need to apologize.)

I've been through 1 merger, which was a bit nasty. (Piedmont/Usair) And am in the process of another which hasn't been bad at all. I think it's all about attitude.
If it happens,it happens. So be it.
If not, well that's okay too.

We as employees need to keep in mind that we have no control over this and if it goes through, we need to be ladies and gentlemen about it. :D

You are absolutely correct. I personally don't think the merger is a "good fit", but I never felt this way due to the employees. I'm looking at route maps, fleet types, etc. I would be the first to apologize to anyone if they informed me that I said anything hurtful to them. Most of my posts are on the DL board, and are usually in response to comments that serve no purpose other than to incite anger.
Having said that, if DL were to merge with anyone, I certainly wouldn't see any good in purposefully sabotaging it. Being unemployed sucks!

Anyone else here surprised by all the delta votes? I am..
Most of the people FOR the merger have their own self interests in mind (live in ATL, commute would/could be easier to Base "X" or whatever the reason). I personally see very few positives in a merger with Delta....fleets do not match up, ATL/CLT too close and mixing employees:union/nonunion. There will be much at stake here and many people on both sides will pay the consequences as in FURLOUGHED. Parker can spin whatever HE wants about "synergies" but so far I am not overly impressed with how His Team has handled simple integration factors that should have been rectified LONG before a merger with ANY airline is even contemplated.

yeah, that sounds about right. I keep forgetting that we have a lot of ATL commuters. My own self interest in this would be the huge operation the "New Delta" would have at BOS. I believe it is the only crew base both airlines have in common. LGA may also be a crew base for both. Not sure about the possible furloughs. I would be surprised if only 10% of the airline being divested. I guess we'll all know soon enough... It will be interesting to see what Parkers plan B will be.. especially if consolidation happens anyway.
