The reps were bullied into a false deadline (where have we seen THAT before), and were cleverly manipulated into a unanimous vote to submit the MOU to the membership with advice to vote "Yes."
In the process of doing that, we will once again, as a group, give away what little leverage we have (scope) for a lot of iffy promises and vague language. If, as Parker and Kirby have often said, that the east scope language can be easily overcome, then WHY was it necessary to have us waive it at all?
It's a "pig in a poke," and we will once again get a deal which could have been much better for us had we stuck to our guns. "
The reps were not "bullied" into anything, all they are doing it giving you, the line pilot, a chance to vote on a business proposal. The other four parties in this proposal indeed created deadlines, and we are under no obligation to honor or even react to them. But the rational majority at USAPA said you at least deserve a chance to give your vote in case you wanted to go along willingly as a participant in the ride, or kicking and screaming later with none of the benefits for playing ball.
We are not in BK, our Company seems reasonably successful, and we have some pretty good protections. Trouble is those protections are supporting the continuation of a BK contract on our property. At great political expense (and indeed the CLT reps were played beautifully, talk about a train wreck of self importance!) this offer was brought to you to vote on by a unanimous consensus. The making of the sausage will be stuff of legend, but you probably won't hear the truth for a long time. That's ok, we are voting.
If you do not like the MOU, vote no. But how dare you act as if the very decision of allowing our own pilots to vote is bad. If you vote no and the rest of us (over 80%) vote yes, then you are in a simple minority. Personally, I am not willing to "stick by our guns" when that means status quo. The East scope language has no value outside a merger. If you think a train leaving the station is all of us having a vote, then you are in for a rude awakening. Go ahead and say it, you think the rest of us are too stupid to vote correctly.
