Closing Of Pit?

I have to agree with Orville on this one. I doubt all regional flying is going to be on nothing but turboprops.

Interestingly enough, there are a large number of cardboard boxes sitting down in PIT's baggage matrix that say US Airways on the sides that weren't there before. Perhaps for res? Perhaps for simply shipping passengers' goods? Apparently, no one down there knows exactly what they are for. My information on that is from an extremely reliable source.

A couple of days ago I saw a flatbed semi with, I think, 3 or 4 baggage carts (don't know what they are called but, the ones that carry the bags to the planes) going down the parkway, away from the airport area.

Where were they going?

Why is it a shock or even news that ground equipment is leaving PIT? When managment announced that they were going to change PIT from a hub to a "focus city" they would be foolish to leave those excess assets sitting idly on the ramp, they are simply redeploying them to were the flying is. Those who work in PIT need to make peace with the reality that PIT is no longer the Mecca of USAirways.

Believe me, they have..and they intend on making everyone suffer for it..Just open your ears and eyes. Are they right..wrong? That's up to each person to decide.

FirstAmendment...that is hardly fair. What effects Pit WILL effect everything and everyone else. No one is insulated to this. This will be a system wide event.

No one can blame those that are under turmoil and fearful of getting layed off or displaced. Home is where the heart is. Many, many Pit people have strong ties to the area, just as those in Clt. Not being able to commute to keep your job will be a big problem.

Unless I am mistaken, there is such a thing as "Bumping Rights".

Remember, Pit is still a fairly Senior Base.

I truly don't think anyone in Pit wants anyone to suffer. Folks are going to do what they have to do, what is right for them, their families, and their debts.

PS: I wouldn't take it personally ;)

On June 17 Bruce Lakefield, Bruce Ashby, Bend Baldanza, and Jerry Glass met with ALPA. I attended the meeting and Baldanza said US Airways currently operates about 120 daily flights in Pittsburgh and in November the number will go down to less than 100. Then he said in the late winter Pittsburgh would go to a “focus cityâ€￾ and I believe the company will then have about 60 daily mainline flights.

Respectfully,
