Beverage Service On Short Flights?

I was deadheading on one of these flights once (on a 767), and overheard two passengers behind me complaining to the effect that the f/a's must have been lazy on that particular flight because they didn't feel like taking out the carts! I sat there and simmered, then I realized that they had no way of knowing that service codes were predicated upon the size of the a/c being flown, and not necessarily the route.
Passengers do not care about service codes and aircraft types, nor should they. All they have to do is buy an airline ticket.

On these types of flights, surely there's enough time to pass out water bottles and a little package of pretzels, right? That would dispel the image in the the passenger's mind that the flight attendants are being lazy.

Those bottles of water are one of the most expensive items we stock and the miniature ones are no better. It costs more for a that water bottle than it does for a can of COKE. We follow the service code as provided by corporate. If they want to change the service fine, but the flight attendant group will not just start making up service as we go.

3 years ago we flew on British Midlands between Heathrow and Edinburgh. They had small cans of Pepsi, approximately 6 oz. Wouldn't it save a lot of time if Coke or Pepsi could package small cans for airline use in the US? I realize that special sizes would probably cost more, but it could speed up service.

Unless those little bottles of water cost $25 each, just one happy passenger who chooses US for the next ticket provides enough revenue to pay for a whole flight's worth of water.

Even the king of cheap air travel, Southwest, insists on serving beverages on short flights. Why do they waste all that money on beverages? Because happy customers return. Pissed off customers leave. US needs customers to return, not leave.

Not to beat a Dead topic BUT.....Yesterday, my family and I flew out of MCO up to CLT. The service on the B757 was just plain Piss POOR. I would say the flight only had 60 or so passengers in Coach with First Class had 20 or so. The Flight Attendants in Coach were so bad they need to be written up for giving this type of service. The First Class F/A did one Heck of a Job and should be comended. After serving the First Class Cabin, the F F/A served about half of Y1 before the service cart even made it up the Asile. After they served the remainder of the coach cabin, they sat on there butts in the last row of Y2 complaining and reading mags. The F/C F/A was the only crew member to come thru the cabin and pick up garbage. When we landed, numerous passengers me included, were holding beverage items......VERY BAD !!!!!! Now I'm not saying that ALL crew members have this work ethic, but if this continues, why fly USAirways?

You may want to mention it to the Captain on the way out. Or write a letter, the F/A's do get called in.
