AWA ALPA LEC 62 Update

I have a feeling with this week's ALPA EC/US Airways MEC actions that the AWA MEC and its desires regarding the Nicolau Award/Joint Contract may have just become irrelevant.

P.S. And, another day free of 700UW's posts!

Your feeling, as every feeling you have had on this since before the award was handed down, is incorrect.

Junebug,

The AWA MEC and its supporters are not participating in the EC's plan. The ALPA EC, Rice Committee, the US Airways MEC/NC, and the Company are now going to move forward with a leading option of separate contracts and permanent separate operations.

Let's not forget that ALPA EVP Paul Rice indicated a number of points with his comments in quotation marks, which include:

1. The EC Resolution states that the merger process was followed, that ALPA remains neutral, and we need to work in the "real world" to find "realistic solutions."

2. The intent of the EC Resolution and the Rice Committee is to now move the process of "finding solutions" to this issue forward. And if any party is unwilling to engage in this process, then we'll move forward in negotiations "without them."

3. The JNC talks will go forward, but not in the "traditional sense," and may include many different variations that we have not yet even considered.

And, as per today's ALAP MEC Resolution, AI 07-83 Equivalent Contract Negotiations,

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the US Airways MEC endorses the concept of equivalent contracts (separate contracts of comparable value for US Airways and America West pilots), with separate operations, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that such separate operations are to be permanent in nature and include preemptive contract language to assure their continued application during any future merger involving both the US Airways and America West pilots, and

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the US Airways MEC authorizes the US Airways members of the NC to pursue an equivalent contract utilizing all necessary ALPA resources, including the assistance of the Rice Committee.

Junebug, the ALPA EC, the Rice Committee, the US Airways MEC, the US Airways NC (note I did not say JNC), and the Company are going to move forward and the intention is to obtain a new East contract that permits separate operations for the East and West and "includea preemptive contract language to assure their continued application during any future merger involving both the US Airways and America West pilots."

The east MEC can RESOLVE whatever the hell they want, but it doesn't mean dick.

"Realistic solutions" is a relative term and means absolutely nothing.

I promise that it will be the east that is left behind.

You're setting yourself up for a big disappointment.
