Article says US Airways has thinnest cash position of any major airline

When all of you wake up to the fact that he holds you in the same contempt as he does customers then you'll know what to do.
I don't codone his behavior. I am just stating facts of what was discussed in the meeting. Heaven forbid if anyone has anything positive to say on this grump site. GEEZ!
He is about making money, and we all know he doesn't give a hoot for his employees. But, I am trying to bring a little light out of the tunnel. I don't think the country can afford another 35,000 people on the street. JMHO

Wait... didn't you recently post a thread recently that US was 'coming around' with regards to customer service? Weren't you repeatedly able to help people with certain issues over on FT?

So, are customers being held in contempt or aren't they? Are you saying that just Doug holds passengers and employees in contempt, and your connection within the company does not? As a representative of FFOCUS, the messages you send are mixed. Should we be happy that you are able to receive help for passengers 'behind the curtain', or should we feel that it is all a big lie? Are things not taking a turn for the better, but instead for the worse? After reading some of your recent posts on FT, it sounds like US was going above and beyond in areas where they did not have to. Confused.....

PB, we've been the Titanic for years.

Really, what makes this year any different?

The East employees have been run into the ground since 9/11. We have felt management could care less for years.

The West is only just realizing this.

You mean management couldn't care less.... If they could care less, that would be a good thing!

the dubious distinction on losing less less then expectied means the Titanic floats a few days longer. Wonder how much Doug and Scott's bonus will be for that.?

VERY Impressive!!! NOT!

I am truly shocked at your 180 degree turn. I thought you were working well, doing great work with US as an advocate for customers, and even stated recently that FFOCUS was taking a different approach to dealing with airlines, namely US. Disappointed that your tone has changed so drastically.

Totally agree with you, except the East employees have allowed management to run this operation into the ground.

It is like customer service. Because of the efforts of PB and others, management has started to pay attention to the customers. When the employees push back enough, management will stop. It is a law of negotiation. If you stop pushing back then you end up negotiating with yourself. and Glass is happy. He needs, and until now gets, employees with weak stomachs.

AFA needs to redouble their efforts. The pilots might considering starting.

Ehhhh...I don't think the top has much to do with brainstorming ideas to hurt the customers. Those are the beancounter and marketing. When a peon has an idea that might get traction, they crunch the numbers and elevate it 5 levels up the chain of command until the CEO confirms the net revenue, and Scott and Doug rubber stamp it.

Their biggest liabilities is the PERCEPTION of them, not saying that its not deserved, as they certainly haven't tried to win the hearts of the employees.

Other than that, they are running the airline like a business, trying to earn more revenue than expenses. It's up the corporate workforce to formulate ideas withing thier budget to achieve those goals.

Let's put this a different way. Imagine how much money banks would be losing right now if treated their workforce and customer with respect. Instead, when things got bad, most banks cut about 10% of their workforce and jacked up fees and interest rates on their customers. Guess what, people complained, but 2 quarters later, most banks are back to profitability.

My point is, we shouldn't expect airlines to be an efficiently run businesses, if we don't want the consequences of what that means.

So the bottom line, Doug & Scott should be accountable since they give the final ok....

Oh my! ! I bet you UAL is crappin' their pants. Nobody can honestly believe that WN taking over Frontier and their hub in Denver isn't gonna cause UAL some troubles there. YIKES! ! !

I don't know. One competitor (WN) is better than two (WN + F9). And assuming Southwest drops the regional flying, drops the inernational destinations and reduces some capacity and perhaps cuts routes such as Denver - ATL. It might actually help United.

I think United needs an exit strategy from Denver. Shame DCA and IAD hurt the cause of a possible US/United hook up.

Well it's kind of interesting to look at the Spin in AboutUS.

When cash is shown as a percentage of gross revenue US actually has more cash then most legacies yet well short of WN.

Then of course they included the nearly worthless investment as cash and marketable securities which IMO artificially inflates the true cash position.

(Insert standard PineyBob trust and credibility rant here)
Yeah Bob, You're Right, Figures don't Lie, Only Liars Figure....

I know this comes as a shock, US is not the only airline that practices deception..

No shock! just that US has seemed to raise the art of deception to an art form. I just hope they have good legal and tax advice. Sarbanes-Oxley is a federal law with actual teeth
Piney, can you explain why our cash position is the art of deception?? I am curious on your full synopsis, or the plane truth. I thought our profit was good news for US, and why that is gobbled up with special item expenses, can you elaborate...? Thanks
