So, do any of the politically minded frequenters of the board have an opinion on the Rove/Plame scandle they want to share?

I hope Rove gets caught in the middle of a lie. Dude reminds me of a kid who got beat up a lot in school and is extracting his revenge on the rest of society today.

It doesn't matter if he lies or not now. He has been fingered for exposing a CIA agent and that is a crime whether he lies about it or not.

It irks me to no end that the majority of the GOP remains silent over something that could be considered treason ( Revealing an agent is a misuse of his security clearance which is a threat to national security and the agent herself) but they raised caine over a lie about an affair between two consenting adults which was not a threat to anyone. And, they raised caine over white water which turned out to be legitimate.

Another strange thing is the news woman who went to jail because her research concluded Plame was CIA. Yet Novak, a republican mouthpiece, actually exposed the woman on TV gets to carry on without so much as "shame on you".

Its seems there is no more right or wrong. Just spin and cover ups.

Unfortunately, from what I can determine, even if Rove is identified in court as the person responsible, he can still get off.

It seems that the law makes it a crime to knowingly reveal the identity of an undercover operative. Rove can simply say that he did not know that she was an undercover operative. This was discussed on the Charlie Rose show last night, and one of the guests pointed out that the Time memo specifically stated that Rove never mentioned the name of the CIA operative to the Time reporter. That still does not answer the question of what he told Robert Novak and why Novak is not being brought up on charges that he revealed the actual name in his column. Couldn't possibly be because he an administration mouthpiece, now could it?

Of course, if it had been any of the Democrats who identified her, Shrub would have the culprit sent to Guantanamo as the worst traitor since Benedict Arnold. The New York Times reporter is in jail because she works for that patently communist newspaper.

Why waste my time--I'm sure I won't change your mind. The whole thing is politics. From Wilson's reports to the newspaper articles, just DC politics. Both sides did something crooked--that's the only guarantee. Who ends up winning the PR game is the only outcome to be decided.

Can somebody tell me what Wilson did that was crooked? Please site original and unedited sources. No creative quote clipping.

Ambassador Wilson did nothing crooked or illegal. What he did was go on a fact-finding mission to Niger at the government's request. When he returned his report did not support the lie that the Bush people were telling that Niger was selling yellow-cake uranium to Saddam. In fact, his report said the whole story was a lie because it turned out that as best he could determine Saddam never even made an attempt to buy the uranium.

Not supporting the lie was what got his wife outed as a CIA operative.

I have a feeling when the truth of all this comes out its gonna be stranger than anyone predicted. Remember Novak sited 2 administration sources. Also, Plame's outing may or may not have been damaging to national security, but aparently this lead to exposing the CIA front company she worked for. So vis a vi all those agents may have been compromised. Just speculation, but an example of why things could get interesting.

He went to Niger at the government's request--because his wife put him in for the job. Smacks of nepotism.

His report was no as specific as you would portend. The CIA noted that he did a poor job of research. Hence, you could easily conclude that his conclusions were basically useless--except for politics. Does it seem odd that he, a big supporter of Kerry) would write an op ed piece in the NY Times for something other than political reasons? It doesn't seem that he was too worried about his wife's status. Again, it's all PR. Use it for what you will--don't let the facts get in the way--there's not many known anyways.

What facts in the way? Wilson's op ed was right. The Papers were bogus and so was the saddam/niger/nuclear issue. The administration didn's refute his findings with any facts, they outed his wife. Wouldnt you be upset if your findings were ignored? If Wilson had been wrong, maybe you got a point, but he was right. Thats a fact. And Rove outed his wife, thats a fact. why would he be afraid to write an op-ed cause of his wifes status? It wasnt a secret that she was his wife, it was a secret that she was an agent. There is no reason Rove should have even known she worked at the CIA, unless she was very important, or somebody in the admin looked into it, right?

Why does his suport of Kerry matter? Would you support Bush if his administration outed your wife? He wasn't pro Kerry at the time he worte the article. Wilson gave 2K to Bush's father. What does that mean? What does nepotism matter? He was qualified. His wife recommended him, but had no authority to send him, her bosses did that, are they Democrats then?

Looks like the new scoop might be that Rove got the name from Novak, But unless Cooper got the name from somebody else before Rove gave it to him, he still isnt off the hook. I'm pretty sure Rove is gonna survive this thing anyway though.
