Is it just me or was that a flat street?

I was in LAS in Dec a few years ago and they had 1 inch of snow and about 15 traffic deaths....people are strange.

Lots of hills here in Pittsburgh....combat winter driving tactics too. ;)

It's a real shame that Americans have so little regard for their environment. We're all gonna wake up one day and wonder when America became a fourth world country.

Ii find it amazing that you would make an absurd claim like that. Our own government and its EPA and all its policies are a major reason why most companies have left the states...and its for lax environmental laws and policies in other countries.Remember Kyoto accords? They want to penalize us while its ok for them to pollute the rest of the world even though we lead the world in pollution control technology.

...But...But...But its all 'W's fault.

Can I carry a six foot ladder in an Ion or a Yaris? I can (and have) in my Prius. There are 3 inches LESS legroom for the rear seat passenger of a Yaris...I'm 6'4" and have plenty of legroom in the back of the Prius. I'm sure the Yaris and Ion are very nice cars, but they aren't the same size or type car as a Prius.

You can fit a six foot ladder in almost any car. The trunk or lift gate might have to be left open but you can still do it. Myself, I'm not willing to spend an extra $8-10 thousand on a car that can carry a six foot ladder with the trunk closed.

It's nice that someone who is 6'4 can fit in the back of a Prius and have plenty of legroom. However how often are you back there? I've owned a number of cars in my lifetime and have never traveled in the back seat. As far as interior dimensions they are pretty much the same on the ION and Prius. In fact the front seat the ION has about an inch more headroom.

Ah...here in the heart of America, we get subzero temps, and salt is on the roads for a good part of the winter...car goes just fine thru it all. I live on a cul-de-sac that isn't plowed until much later in the day, yet I had no problems getting around on unplowed roads. And the beauty of the heart of America is that we also get extreme heat during the summer months. Again - not a problem. FWIW, the Prius AC and Heat units are electric, so they do not require the engine to be running all the time to operate them.

You've had the car for what, about two years. I wonder what the condition will be in eight to ten years of salt, potholes and extreme temperatures. Most people don't keep cars ten years like you plan to. The longest I have kept a car was nine years. It did it's job but it was on it's last legs.

Looks like Honda is discontinuing the hybrid Accord. Sales were poor at best, in fact I can only remember seeing it once or twice. Guess the price difference between the hybrid and the base version of the Accord was to big.

A gallon of Gas is'nt high enough yet to justify it!

Just wait till we pay $7.00 a liter like the french, you will see Humvees being auctioned off. :D

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

$7.00 a gallon ???

When ???......................................I'm not sure.

Who will be in the W/H(If/when it happens)????....The GOP !

NH/BB's

NHBB, you keep ignoring the fact that when adjusted for inflation the highest price of oil occured on Dec 1979. Your not going to try and convince us that Jimmy Carter was a tool of the oil industry are you?

The discussion was about the price of "gasoline," not the price of oil. Although closely related, they do not always work in tandem (ex. gas prices take much longer to drop after the price of oil drops as compared to when gasoline prices increase when the price of oil increases).

Also, adjusted for inflation, this May the average cost of gasoline topped the 1981 spike that held the previous record.

Price of Gas

Whew, gas prices are high. Higher than they've ever been. During the week of May 21, the Lundberg Survey, a biweekly gas price tracking service, put the average cost of a gallon of unleaded at $3.18. Adjusted for inflation, that topped the 1981 price spike that had held the record for 26 years.

That doesn't surprise me, since there are two ways to use a hybrid system. One is for fuel economy, like the Prius. The other is to get 380 horsepower out of a V6 by offering the hybrid as a performance boost, like Honda did with the Accord. You paid a premium for an Accord hybrid so that you could have a hybrid hot rod, not so that you could have an economical larger car.

That's something I don't understand about Americans....we have speed limits on our freeways (usually about 70 mph) which are speeds that could easily be attained by a car with 100 horsepower, but we need 300 and 400 horses in order to see who can get from the stop light at 10th and Main to the stop light at 11th and Main the fastest.
