AMR Faces Union Stalemate in Bid for $800 Million Labor Savings

Personal allowance for execs is part of their salary, so that was also waived.

Totally agree, Frank. And the reality is that the cuts in management were done on a sliding scale not too different from how income taxes are assessed, i.e. the rich pay more because they won't miss it... On a percentage basis, those making more took bigger cuts. I took a bigger cut as a L5 than my L4's did. L1's in our area took token cuts, just like the agents did, because they were already fairly low in comparison to the average salary for non-management employees union and non-union.

So there was no "SHARED" pain. And those making more who took bigger cuts recouped what they lost a long time ago.

As for the TWU leadership, you are correct.
They get paid just like greedy executives do. They act the same as greedy executives do. They even have the nads to complain about executive compensation while their own are right up there with the best of em.
No argument there.

What bothers me most is that those TWU defenders here NOT ONCE have ever complained about the TWU leadership compensation. NOT ONCE!

The same way pro management defenders support AA executive compensation as being inadequate compared to their peers at other carriers!

Keep something in mind. Sure, many will hit the street in a bankruptcy. But just remember that people like me will still be on the job. We will continue to make sure AA stays in the toilet. People that keep thier jobs will be more bitter than ever.

Hey, who cares if AA is at the bottom of every ranking and aspect as long as they are profitable.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) -- AMR Corp. said Friday it has begun buying the planes used by its American Eagle unit, which it is spinning off to AMR shareholders.
AMR said in a regulatory filing Friday that it began buying the 263 planes Wednesday and expects to complete the purchases by Oct. 15.
The company said it will pay fair market value for the planes, then lease them back to Eagle, which connects passengers to flights operated by AMR's American Airlines.
AMR announced last month that it would assume $2.2 billion in debt on Eagle's planes and spin off the unit, although they continued to look for a buyer.
In Friday's filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, AMR said if the debt on the aircraft exceeds the value of the planes, Eagle will give American company notes to cover the gap.
Shares of Fort Worth-based AMR fell 10 cents to close at $3.42. They have ranged between $3.17 and $8.98 in the past year.

Plenty of money to spend so long is they dont spend it on you :D

Whats the going rate for 37 & 44 seat RJ's that are no longer the flavor of the month anyway?

AMR will pay top dollar for the actual aircraft and lose their shirts on the leaseback to Eagle.

JFK, you just don't see the big picture. This is part of a much bigger plan. Other features of the plan...giving MCI-STL, STL-SEA, STL-BOS, STL-PHX and many many more to WN. We have to focus on our cornerpost cities. (I know, I know. "Corner" posts don't normally appear in the center of an object (a la DFW,ORD), but here again...you just don't see the big picture.)

Once they complete buying the 263 airplanes they will file for bankruptcy!!!

It's better to die upon your feet than to live upon your knees!

A good quote by Emiliano Zapata, one of the leaders of the Mexican Revolution.

Most of the office boys haven't the capacity to understand that, having lived on their knees for most of their miserable lives bringing coffee to the office ogres, nor do they have the capacity to - you'd have more luck teaching a pig to sing.

My grandfather, a carpenter, told me to "Learn a trade and learn it well. You won't get rich but you won't have to kiss another man's ass, either".

That would be the time, if they're going to.

I still can't imagine the Centrepork control freaks willing to relinquish control of the business to a judge/trustee in a Chapter 11 filing. Perhaps a fire sale of some sort in that they remain steering the business into the abyss but the very thought of having control wrested from them just doesn't sit well with the egos of this type of people.

"an excellent quote from APA's pilot leader Dave Bates today....

"A quick look around our industry illustrates that employee engagement and good financial performance
are closely related. The companies that inspire employees to perform at their best
are also the ones that perform better financially. It’s pretty simple, actually—
employees who feel appreciated work hard to please customers, which results in
repeat business and positive word-of-mouth, which in turn breeds further success.

...

"It’s not practical to craft a policy or procedure for every situation pilots and other
employees encounter. Instead, it’s better to give workers some latitude to make the
decisions they believe to be in the operation’s best interests. When you grant
workers a greater degree of autonomy, they view that as a vote of confidence and
they work hard to demonstrate that they deserve to be trusted. It’s a form of
engagement—of harnessing discretionary energy—that will produce dividends
across the operation.
American Airlines needs to find ways to engage employees more effectively. I am
convinced that a lack of effective engagement is one reason our airline’s
performance has lagged while other carriers have outpaced us. "

accurate and well said.
There ARE AA people who understand what needs to change to make AA work.....
they now need to take the steps to take back control of the company.
Continuing to blame others or deny that the problems even exist is not workable.
Actively creating solutions is what is needed...
and I do note that he didn't lay out a plan for how to make that happen.

The AA employee "bricks" foolishly gave in to the cause last time, almost nine years ago, and Centerpork still wants more to feed the PUP swine.

What fight? Didn't see one and still haven't....at least from the Twu.

We gave 1.6 billion....but it's never enough bacon. The Centerpork swine must have more to feed their failed business model....and cover the misguided business decisions.

If the 'bricks" are finally in the government cheese line, hopefully you will be stranded at some lonely airport for a week....

and then banished to flying on a LUV cattle car with no first class, and a screaming brat right behind your seat....for the rest of your days.

Touche'

One thing is for sure WorldTraveler the people are not behind the current management.....they can throw all the bullshit party's
and pat theirselves on the back...and oh hand out bonus checks. They have done nothing to motivate employee's. If a survey was taken,I would bet better than 75% don't trust any member of management here.Whats it's going to take? Who knows? I don't have much confidence in AA myself for AA to pull this one off....The seeds been planted and it's an ugly offspring... I don't even like wearing my uniform in public it's embarrassing...

Arpey needs to lead or step aside,or make the needed changes....,popular or not so and get on with it....

I dont care who writes the check, as long as its written. Mechanics have a lot of lattitude in how they do their job and as long they are treated right most will do it to the best of their ability, that means both in quality and timliness.

Funny how even though we havent recieved a raise the number keeps going up. I guess they figure that they will scare us into accepting their concessionary deals before the number reaches $1billion. Keep changing the numbers, that only shows the rest of the world how full of crap they are.
