American Airlines Seeks Recall Of Laid-Off Workers

Yeah, and I seem to remember Bill Clinton stating he did not have sex with Monica....

TWA didn't have to file bankruptcy once the purchase agreement was in place, but they would have had to file at some point. There's no denying it. IIRC, the debt revolver payment due in mid-January would have put their cash well below the $153M in the bank.

Yes it would have but they still did not need to file C-11 at that point.

L10------ Filing C-11 was a "Condition of Sale!" by AA. It's purpose was two fold. One,----- to provide a vehicle to get out from under Carl Ichon! Two,------- it provided a means to force the Unions to give up their Contractual protection. Both were deal breakers for AA and it's Unions!

You know it's a shame that "Global Aviation" couldn't come up with the money in bankruptcy court to buy TWA. It sure would have saved AA and it's employees a lot of grief. AA bought poison when it bought TWA. I used to give TWA folks a break, but after all the whining and crying by TWA's ex-employees. They will get no more sympathy from me.

Thank goodness no more sympathy, cannot think of anyone who would want your sympathy.

This is only in relation to my station:

6 recall notices profferred; 6 recall notices rejected.

To Date: ANYONE OFF PAYROLL FOR MORE THAN 2 YEARS HAS REFUSED RECALL AND VOLUNTARILY BEEN REMOVED FROM EMPLOYMENT CONSIDERATION.

So much for being an employer of choice...put that in your metrics...

It was not in bankruptcy and there was $153 million in the bank. The CEO of TWA testified TWA did not have to file bankruptcy, that was AA's idea for AA's reasons.
$153 million in the bank? Check out this link: http://judiciary.senate.gov/oldsite/te020701dc.htm. Pay particular attention to paragraph three. Granted, this is Carty speaking under oath to a Senate committee, but $153 million in the bank? I don't think Carty had any reason to lie about this. How quickly we forget.

At this point in time, I really don't think it matters much! ( We can't put Humpty Dumpty back together again, as much as we would like to!) But it's interesting reading anyway! Especially the Paragraph where Carty says He's looking forward to welcoming the 20,000 TWA employees into the American Family!

I could not agree with you more!

Hopefully this will be the year for most ex-TWAers to get back on the clock. It looks like on the M&R side of the house things are starting to happen with recalls.

Recalls, at least from the M&R end of it, are on the increase. But the total number of retirements are also! Although the increase in numbers may seem dramatic at times, in reality, the net increase really isn't that great!

153 Million stated by a member of the TWA Board of Directors. As for Carty, he had a hard time with truth, that is why he was fired as I understand it.

I hate to beat a dead horse, but I then suppose that Bill Compton was less than truthfull when he testified to the same Senate committee and said the exact same thing about having $20 million in the bank. Here it is, check out the link and pay particular attention to paragraph 6. http://judiciary.senate.gov/oldsite/te020701wc.htm

Not to mention the numbers of those like me who have turned down our recalls.
