Airlines And Service

In defense of the flight attendents on US, have you seen the "Goat Rodeo" that the boarding process is now thanks to EVERYONE trying to stow EVERYTHING on board?

SKY HIGH states:.......have you seen? I caught eye contact with a frequent flyer the other day in first class. I KNOW that you watch us handle our jobs. I joked with him and said, during a stressful part of boarding passengers, coats and BAGS...."who needs a movie when you can watch the circus". We both laughed.

My point, which you missed, was countering the flight attendant's excuse that pre-departure drinks cannot be served to First Class passengers because the flight is delayed, or passengers bring huge carry-ons (they do that on Delta, too).

Really JS? That's interesting because I don't think Delta flies A321's with 26 F seats and 1 f/a to serve. The same f/a who, by the way, is expected to be at the door greeting customers as they board.

Basically, yes.

That's no excuse. I've gotten a pre-departure drink in First Class on Delta every single time. Even if the flight is running late, they make it a point to offer all First Class passengers a pre-departure drink of their choice. Delta uses the same minimum FAA flight attendant staffing as US Airways, so that's not the reason.

Delta flies 757's with 24 F seats.

To set the record straight here. We are to serve a pre-departure beverage in f/c "TIME PERMITTING". On our airbus A321 we board through the 1L door with 26 passengers up there. Let's talk about a "gray area".....In our F/A emergency manual it states that there is to be a flight attendant at every door for boarding. How then can you be in the aisle serving drinks when there is nobody to greet and say hello? The time permitting rule though is in our policies and procedures manual. The main objective is to have all passengers seated and overhead bins closed so the door can be shut. On time performance is key. On international we not only do Champagne, OJ and mimosa's, we do amenity kits, menu's and magazines and newspapers on a cart no less. It is not always the easiest thing to do with a minimum crew. Sometimes it's like having the Harry Potter cloke on when your in the aisle. I dont hesitate to ask if I'm invisible too. I had a pax throw a bag as well at the last minute of boarding. I in turn chucked it out the door onto the jetway. I said, "must not have anything breakable in it"....... I think that most of at US are good flight attendants. Even the "most" seasoned traveller can be unaware of why you didnt get a drink. Hell, maybe they had enough to serve you 1 drink. Don't laugh it has been happening alot. How about no cups. Hopefully you have a better experience on US next time if not then I guess we have lost another "dedicated" passenger. Hey, thats the breaks.

SKY HIGH states: So CATERING has NEVER BEEN LATE TO A DELTA PLANE?
That's ONE of the other reasons why I can not (in a timely manner) get you a pre-departure drink. I have to STAY OUT OF THEIR WAY for them to do their job! :up:

JS,

All you do is complain about US Airways F/As, you started a whole thread on it a couple of weeks ago.

I suggest if you don't like US' F/As and the service the provide, don't fly on US, go stick to your beloved DL, seems they can do no wrong and US does everything wrong.

Why bother flying US if all you do is hate their service and complain?

Did a US F/A reject you and hurt your ego?

Usually 2L, sometimes 1L at weird gates.

I didn't start a thread on US Airways flight attendants.

All I did was ask why the pre-departure beverage could not be completed on US Airways, using Delta (just another legacy carrier) as a point of comparison.

I have nothing personal against US Airways flight attendants. In fact, I think they're second only to Delta! (and WN I guess, but the two aren't really comparable) :up:

Short story -- my wife flew on UA in F from CLT to ORD to DFW a couple of days ago. She said that on the ORD-DFW flight, she asked for a cup of coffee as the pre-departure beverage. She said that the flight attendant said she couldn't brew coffee until after take-off. But then the flight attendant made the coffee anyway.

Summary, with a bit of humor: on Delta, when you ask for coffee, you get coffee. On UA, they will waffle on whether they will produce the coffee. On US, they are too busy being clobbered by stacked suitcases to hear your request. ;)

Lets not forget that on other mainline US a/c such as the 737-300/400 a319 and a320 one f/a is in the rear galley two up front. While the B f/a is to be in the back they and the C are to be monitoring bag space and closing overheads. That my friends leave the A flight attendant all alone up front. US wants miracles to happen and we 99% of the time do it because we care about our passengers. Obviously not as much as beloved Delta. While I won't stick up and make excuses for there not being a pre-departure beverage sometimes were a damn good group of flight attendants. For the most part, we do the job with the tools were provided. I remember standing in the galley trying to serve 12 passengers with 10 or 11 meals. Like I'm David Copperfield......When I hear stuff like I'm thirsty and "snap" "snap" to get a coat that just sets me off. The same "snap" "snap" when your looking for my a@# to get you out of that heaping, twisted wreck of burning metal god forbid. I'm a consumer like anyone else and don't like when service is bad or slow. Did you ask why you didn't get a drink? LORDY...... Do you know what happens if we step off the a/c or are not by our boarding stations and an FAA inspector announces themselves? "WE" the f/a get a personal fine not US Airways. That I can assure won't happen on my flight.....

For the folks who don't fly regularly I think it's hard to understand what a prima donna you can become if you're not careful. I'm not just talking Customers, I'm talking F/A's, Pilots too. It's something about being on the road and seeing the good & bad in customer service that does it.
[post="256555"][/post]

What is interesting in this is you see it and know it yet you let yourself become one and become consumed by it.

PineyBob said:
The way I see it is this. My time is worth about $250/hr billed to a client. So if I have to wait an extra hour in order to get a prime seat that I get for nothing on ANY other carrier, then SWA by the nature of their business process owes me $250.00 each way.
[post="255289"][/post]
Yet you'll drive how many hours out of your way to fly out of BWI on occasion, or add how many hours to your trip by making a connection somewhere, even though SWA could get you there from PHL non-stop?

:rolleyes:

I wouldn't say consumed. Trust me when I tell you if you think I'm a Prima Donna. you should see what I see! You should see what US front liners see. I'm a freaking pussycat in comparission to what's out there.

You don't know fully what motivates me!  But consider this. There are several threads dealing with the sense of entitlement open right now.

Consider this, If a VFF can develop a sense of entitlement then doesn't it stand to reason that employees can do likewise?
[post="256676"][/post]

How do you know what I have seen out there?

I may not know what fully motivates you but I have a good idea unless your posts on here are all fake and a game. I from what I read on here from you think you think you are a Prima Donna. You most definitly love talking about yourself and relate everything you read to yourself personally.

Case in point you assume you have seen everything and I have seen nothing when in fact you have no clue about me at all.
