Aircraft maint issues

It’s a bad time for USA AMTs, senator Inoff from Oklahoma no less, has introduced legislation to make it easier for non licensed people to work on airliners.

Trump and Jared have business dealings in the Middle East so I doubt there will be any help to fight the Middle East Airlines.

Every Major airline has cut AMT staffing in half.

Federal law works against airline unions and sadly the afl cio is not interested in making a strong airline mechanics union with only airline mechanics issues and membership.

Not to mention our own airline is under attack from Ultra low cost carriers as well as southwest. Spirit WOW and Norwegian Air.
Welcome to the world of corporate America, we as mechanics like to think of ourselves like pilots we are not. They just make it easier to replace you, and no one cares unless there is a smoking hole in the ground. So it forces you to be part of the big industrial unions, where this is your piece of the pie, regardless if you like it or not. The only reason AMFA works at Southwest is because our group is so small, and we contract a lot of work out. Every other airline that had a large maintenance footprint, didn't keep AMFA very long.

It’s a she, do you even read the link you stole?

And that was announced on February 1, 2018.

Admittedly no I did not. I was a little taken by the new VP in labor relations and did not know if maybe your NC might start seeing a presence from her at the table. I understand she will be reporting to Johnson, but maybe she will be tasked with the nego table seat as well. Ya never know. SWA likes having the women at the nego table to keep things more say civil if you will...

If you read the article you would see he is a she and who she actually reports too.

Amazing you post a link and dont even read it. SMH

Labor Relations and Deputy General Counsel

Lucretia Guia has been promoted to Vice President – Labor Relations and Deputy General Counsel, a position that was previously open.

“Lucretia is a proven leader and has a history of working collaboratively with our team members, union representatives, and internal and external counsel,” said Paul Jones, American’s Senior Vice President and General Counsel, to whom Guia will report. “As we continue to work toward creating an environment that truly cares for our team members, no one is better suited to lead that charge in labor matters than Lucretia.”

Guia joined US Airways in 2009 after practicing labor and employment law with firms in Atlanta, Georgia, and Greensboro, North Carolina, for 20 years. Since 2013, she has served as American’s Managing Director and Associate General Counsel, responsible for all aspects of labor relations law, including labor contracts for American’s 75,000 union-represented team members. In her new role, Guia will have oversight of American’s Labor Relations department as well as team members working in Labor Relations Law for the company.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in Commerce from the University of Virginia, and received her Juris Doctor from the Wake Forest University School of Law.

All I got to say is that when it comes time to demonstrate the IAM had better be there.

Glad to finally see the NC hold strong for the better medical. OG, it seems it took a jab at the LUS'ers to get them to wake up. I hope it is for the better from here on out with support coming from all unions and all groups within the same contract. It is too bad it took the ole, "it now affects us at US" to get the support, actually very sad, but maybe the sleeping giants just got a rude awakening...

Wake up, remember it is the TWU who should have been on board with the IAM medical all a long. We have a better contract and will fight to improve it even more!

Why?

You do realize this insurance survived three rounds of concessions in two different bankruptcies, a JCBA in 2008 and a Section 6 CBA in 2014?

Agreed to by the same current negotiator for the company who agreed to it in 2005, 2008 and 2014, Jerry Glass who is leading Negotiations right now?

And Parker signed off on it those three times also.

Why should we give it up now when times are good, when we didn’t give up when times were bad and US was almost out of business?

The association should have never signed to work on each other’s metal until they brought TWU up to the same benefits the IAM had. We need to stop arguing amongst ourselves and focus on getting the best possible contract for all.

The answer is quite simple. American Airlines now employs over 126000 people. Not the 33000 or so USAIR employees had prior to merger.
No one is saying give up, but the numbers are why, plain and simple.

I have to agree with this post. All we hear coming from the LUS side is their concern about their healthcare premiums and IAM pension. No outcry about more outsourcing. Just that they do not want to pay more for healthcare. To hell with the LAA people.

That doesn’t matter. What are the revenue streams today and the size of the operation also to compare the differences in employee counts.

Not to mention the fact that they are over time going to whittle those numbers down.
