Against Seniority for Non-Rev Travel

Until you have fully experienced both systems (like Segment King) how can you base your opinion on something you haven't experience yet?
Add me to that list. USAir Express and TWA was DOH, American and AWA FCFS. I had good luck under both systems and my commute would probably be unaffected. I believe FCFS is the better system because it makes more people happy.

Currently all commuters system wide are commuting on their date of hire. That is a priority boarding, your seniority. The point is the company is considering changing the system mid stream. I have no problems going to the FCFS, but I feel as though people that are trying to get to/from work should have a priority boarding. ONLY to/from work.
How is something like this supposed to be enforced? How could a person prove, without a doubt, they are traveling to/from work? There is bound to be abuse with this type of system. What about someone coming back from vacation that needs to ge back to work--why should they not get priority? Yes, they should plan ahead, but so should the commuter.

The majority of commuters are crew members, and they have an option that most employees don't: the jumpseat. In addition, pilots can jumpseat on other airlines for free. Other employees have to pay to non-rev on other airlines.

Very few. If we have 18 year furloughees out there; how junior do you think actives are?
Uh, junior people are anyone who isn't senior. The bottom person who isn't furloughed is now junior. I think you have a lot of them. I'm not comparing US to AWA.

There is bound to be abuse with any system they go with, that has already been addressed. In my earlier remarks, I have stated there should be requirements met. EX- must be a registered commuter, must be in company issued uniform, can only receive a higher boarding priority when commuting from the city you are registered to commute from and to the city in which you are based. Crew members are able to provide the agent with a Catcrew printed trip pairing. I am not in any way suggesting that those who commute get a higher boarding priority to travel all over the system. Yes the jumpseat is available to crew members however it is based on seniority also. Will that change to FCFS??

I feel that it should be date of hire all the way! Just because someone chooses to commute does not mean that they should have priority over someone who is going somewhere on a day off. Date of hire is the way to go. The airline is base upon seniority and there is no reason that traveling should be done differently.

There will be hell to pay if "Doogie" chooses FCFS without getting the contracts in order. So, he wants to operate two separate contracts alas two separate airlines under one livery? Big mistake...huge. When it comes to non-reving, those old bag senior "Easties" can say: "Ooops, don't see your name or check-in time here...sorry...it's DOH." Buh-bye...

I am interested to know what makes the employees in the East feel that they are the only persons that have been inconvenienced by this merger? Perhaps while you pout that HP people only think of themselves, you might take a moment to realize that most of us here at AWA, chose to work for AWA-not USAirways. We knew about the pay, and believe me, you lost it to paycuts?-we never had it to lose! But we have been pretty content here anyway. I think few of us are realizing just how content we were but were unaware of it. We mostly had the daily workaday gripes. While you folks merged at management's whims, some from regionals, some from whatever else, we were here at America West, putting our time in. I think we became ranked as a major carrier in 1989 and our record really is sort of spectacular. My hire date is April 09, 1984. Am I junior and do I care only about myself? No, I don't,but I have major concerns for people at HP that have 5-15 years of seniority, who have dedicated THEIR lives to our airline but who are having THEIR lives shoved into tumult. If I follow most of you that post here I think that you fail to realize that we have worked long and hard too.I might have liked some of your fat paychecks back in the day, but I CHOSE to live in Phoenix and grow with our airline. And that goes for most of us. I know that you all think that your parade has been rained on over and over again--perhaps you would consider that ours has been also?
I don't have any problem with FCFS, it's been that way forever, for us!

You really want turmoil? How about all the 15 year employees who are on layoff? Let them come back and lay off the 5-14 year HP employees.

I retired over 1 1/2 yrs ago....have yet to try to non-rev.
I'm ofcourse for doh.
.
comment then a question.
Giving anyone commuting to work a higher priority doesn't seem fair TO ME. But....assuming the company decides to do that, why would they give them a priority to board to GET BACK HOME? Why should they care if you get back home....they should only care if they get to work!

As I've said before...been there done that!!! (As an ex employee of Continental and HP.) So, as I have had experience in both worlds FCFS and DOH. How about this....only those who get in line first get a raise? Only those first in line get their choice of vacation? Only those first in line retire first? Building a career takes time. With that comes reserve, UGH, then finaly a block holder. Our entire industry is built around seniority. When you got hired early on at HP you KNEW you'd be based in PHX. Later a chance of Las Vegas. The East didn't get those opportunities. We've been bought, displaced, moved, furloughed, and the list goes on. I've change locations more times than I want to count. I HAVE to commute...I don't want to, but I can't afford to move again. I FINALY have some ties, a life. I use my seniority pass to commute. Most of you use it for vacation. OR you chose to move, and NOW must commute...But the difference is you CHOSE. Knowing that...what's fair? Sometimes my flight home is late, and I run hoping to get on and the only thing that saved me was my seniority...sometimes it doesn't...however I know it's fair and equal. Do I hate that ALL of the PSA girls and most of the Piedmonsters are senior to me? Nope...I know they've been slinging the rollerbag a little longer than me and good luck to them.

Do I detect a little paycheck envy???? Fat paychecks are all relative. Have you ever tried to live by an airport like PHL,LGA,LAX. It's not cheap.
