Afa Loses Again

700UW

You’re last post was right on the dime, absolutely correct, that is my case in point. The ATC were federal workers, the “LAWâ€￾ prevented them from striking. They violated the law. When unions were formed they violated the law also. It took some BRAVE people to go to jail to prove their case and point. Without those BRAVE people we would not have what we are losing today.

Unions and their membership are dwindling 700. There are many former union workers without full pensions and medical benefits. There are many unemployed union members losing their homes and families. There are many union members going to work everyday with ulcers because they have no idea if they will have a job when they return back home.

All for one and one for all.

No reason to apologize. Your written message was quite clear and extremely accurate. Until our current society endures the reality of job loses, medical benefit loses and pension loses as a “WHOLEâ€￾; we will continue to remain divided.

Kt says"First of All, I thought this was a forum for all to express their thoughts, concerns and Yes,,,,,, maybe even feelings. I am not blaming you at all. I I could not possibly be jealous of someone I have never met. I believe you are taking everything I say a bit personally. I am not the kind of person who gets jealous, angry maybe> And I mean angry with this Company. I am sick of what this company is doing to families. I will survive but I am not sure others will. My best friend just got the BOOT and she loved this job. I would give her mine if I could. But then I am afraid she would still lose it in the end. And maybe someday you will be walking a mile in our shoes. Sorry to have offended you. Nothing personal. "

I didn't take this personal, but every time you ask questions like "did you take a 38% paycut?" You are putting it in a personal light. When I said you were jealous, I didn't mean of me in particular, just at the injustices of it all. There are some that are taking more of a pay cut than others, blame the ones giving the cuts, not the ones that didn't get affected.

A lot of my friends got the boot, I am going to miss them, they were great f/a's. I hope someday they will be able to return. I have walked in your shoes, remember you don't know me or what I've been through. So, don't assume I know nothing of suffering. We all have our own personal stories we could tell about what the airline industry has done to us. It has been a very bumpy ride since deregulation. Ask any ex-Eastern, Pan Am, People's Express, Braniff. I could go on and on. And it's not going to stop here............

Oh wow. You are assuming that I am JEALOUSE AT THE INJUSTICE OF IT ALL????? How could anyone be jealous of INJUSTICE??? And I am blaming the ones who gave the cut. Management. Who bullied all of the New Hires to vote for a contract in order to keep their jobs. Guess what??? They don't have a job. They are gone. And what is going to be left, if anything at all is a bunch of old fogies in their pj's pouring a cup of coke. I didn't assume ANYTHING on your part. Just expressing my opinion.

And by the way, being the (now ex-Newbie) and lowley reserve, would someone please inform on how to do QUOTES. Can't seem to figure it out. But Duh...what do I know.

KT,

Check out my profile and how long I've been here (I think that August date was when it was restarted, the site was around previosly IIRC) and I also do not know how to do quotes. Since you've admitted it, I will too. We will no longer sit in silence. Admitting it is the first step. I am not afraid to ask for help. How do we make the quotes?

I think the old fogies scanrio in the remaining cabins of US Airways is already true. Nothing to do with age, just seniority. A company can and will not survive even culturally with the same people and no fresh blood, ideas, or enthusiasm. And certainly not with the entire workforce at topped out scales. You need the bottom of scale people to balance it. The seniority system was designed to be an ever moving process with people leaving and coming at all times.

I'm not sure how to do quotes either, so I just copy and paste.

When I first started flying, at PSA the most senior person had been flying 16 years. Guess what? She's still here. No one has left, because even though we are an airline of seniority, we are an airline of youngsters. I bet there aren't 40 or 50 that are even retirement age. (62 for a full pension with 30 years of flying) So the only other option these senior mama's have is to continue to fly. Remember, you can't even get partial retirement until 55. And I am over 5 years away from that as is a very large number of f/a's. Probably 1/8 of our work force will be over 55 this year. But you take such a large hit, you'd have to go and get another job to supplement your income.

So, if you are holding your breathe for the senior mama's (and papa's) to leave, don't bother, who can afford to.

Oh and Kt you have been inside way too long. Go out take a walk, (take your beeper with you) and get some fresh air. Then CHILL OUT. No one is dissing you. Remember, Don't T I P. (Take It Personally!)

PSA1979....boy you really are living in the Dark Ages. No one has a Beeper anymore....every heard of a Cellphone! You need to take a TIP

PSA, you're right on the money. The company could provide an earlier retirement of adding 5 years to age and many would leave, but they have no money for it. People need to understand that 55 may seem old to a businessman expecting a young thing on his flight, but the retirement age is 65 for some and 67 for others. Would any of you penalyze yourself out of a better pension? I doubt it. You guys are working because you have to, not to somehow get at the junior kids.

So everyone just think about where you are and where you will be...and maybe you will be less critical.

Oh, and by the way PSA1979.....go take your (1)day, if you haven't already and don't let that Bulldozer hit you in the rear.

If US Airways is an airline of youngsters, I must be a fetus. No offense, I'm just kidding.

PSA, I'm not saying anyone should leave. I'm just saying that the normal cycle of continuous turnover (growth on one end, retirements etc on the other) that pretty much every other airline has had US did not. Not only were there long periods of unemployment, but they got rid of over one full half of the workforce. People with 17 years shouldnt be worrying about reserve and people with 7 years shouldnt be worrying about furloughs. Like I always say, you cant be senior (and enjoy the benefits of it) without someone junior to you.

US Airways is not offering voluntary furloughs because they know they have 5000 people who will gladly return, be it to reserve, pay cuts, work rule changes or even MidAtlantic at any time. They would rather push out the more expensive seniors by making it hard on them. Hence the policy changes and enforcement of sick time, out of base etc. and especially the new reserve system. Junior Jane living in South Philly could care less about the new reserve sytem, in fact it would help her work if she was called back. Its a little tougher for Senior Sally who has to commute in from San Diego and stay at the Lagoon and hope for a trip. They will never offer early retirement even though it makes sense for everyone. Its cheaper to hope people will quit.

I think if we quit wasting so much ice, pop, oj and coffee, we could save enough money to give early retirement. Just Kidding. :D

But I do agree with you Light Years. Ya....make sense. And I do understand what PSA1979 is saying about sticking around.
