AA717driver, Actually the LCC's are bloated with too many employees and benefits also. Why pay pilots when robotic piloted airliners are much safer and more efficent? Why should the airlines offer any benefits at all?! The new Ultra Lowest Cost Carriers (ULCC's) that will appear in the near future will wipe out the present LCC's all in the name of cheap tickets! Coast to coast for $9.99 roundtrip!
Just gotta love that deregulation!

There is a clear distinction between furlough due to the integration and furlough due to economic consequences.

IMHO, the system flush language was relevant to furlough due to integration. Integration has been completed, economic interests have required the rationalization of system capacity and AA as the manager can allocate resources as they deem fit.

I tried to find a link to the DRC Opinion and Awards but have thus far been unsucessfull. I'll keep looking as time permits.

<_< Boomer---- Thank you for the insight! "So inegration has been completed"Let's just pouse and think about that a minute! Does that mean that all of our current Contract applies equally to all members of the TWU? Or does it state somewhere that it only applies to those who are nAAtive Americans? Or some parts to nAAtives, and others to ex-TWAers?

MCI,

Kasher retained arbitral status over questions through the DRC.

If you have a question about the application by the TWU of any matter relating to pay, hours of work or work conditions and you feel that the issue is the result of disparitive treatment by the TWU between any Union Member you the following alternatives:
1) File for a DRC hearing on the matter through your local Union; and,
2) If your local Union refuses to put the issue before the DRC, file a DFR against your local Union.

Probably true, eventually. Of course, they'll have the choice between shedding excess employees and benefits or not, just as the legacies do today.

Why pay pilots when robotic piloted airliners are much safer and more efficent?
Why, indeed? Probably because the technology isn't there yet. It's the same reason why we still have FAs.

Why should the airlines offer any benefits at all?!
Why, indeed? Which is why I far prefer to have a standardized set of benefits nationwide...not that it'll ever happen, of course.

You make it sound like a $10RT is a bad thing. It would have a phenominal positive impact on the national economy...if it were even possible, which it's not.
