AAA ALPA Topic 8/31/07 - 9/06/07

At least we are leading in something. The other major mainline carriers are watching what happens here very closely. If ALPA plays games with how this plays out, it may start a revolution by the others to begin their own decert drives. I see Prater now in a no win situation. He and ALPA are screwed no matter what happens. I wonder if Nicolau had had enough of unions and for his final parting shot before retiring he wanted to watch ALPA explode? Interesting to watch, isn't it?

UAL is already in a de-cert drive. Nascent activities are blooming in other carriers. ALPA is done. Like a headless snake, it will keep flopping around for awhile, not realizing its head, seniority, has been cut off.

Anyone want to guess why the east cancelled tomorrows picket in Tempe?

Do they not care about pay parity for you guys?

Tigger, ... oh never mind.

Cute insult. However I am looking for a comprehensive answer to my question. I believe these rules or guidelines or policies or whatever you want to call them are only in play when the two MC's are trying to negotiate. I DO NOT believe the arbiter is necessarily bound by the aforementioned rules/guidelines/policies. So my friend the question still stands.

Sometimes things taken at face value are not what they seem.

BTW. The "Event" had nothing to do with parity. Just another blunder by ALPA.

Windfall, but lets not get started again!

Okay. But do you believe that the arbiter is bound by the merger policy goals? I believe these goals are only in play when the two MC's are negotiating. Do you agree that when you go to arbitration you forfeit your control? I do. The arbitration board can choose to follow these guidelines or not. This is the risk of arbitration...

Ya, and how long has that been going on?

Real successful so far, eh?

Sometimes it takes the right event, the right moment in history with a determined leadership to get the fence sitters to make a stand. At every airline, there are ALPA supporters and anti-ALPA unionists. The middle ground people just need convincing. Either way. So far ALPA has been its own worst enemy.

Bzzzzzt! Wrong!!!!!!

Council 90 Update
September 4, 2007

Fellow pilots,

Picketing is the first leg of the three pronged approach. Approximately a week ago your MEC unanimously approved a plan to kick off our parity struggle by picketing in PHX at USAirways Headquarters on September 6, 2007. On September 4, 2007, MEC members Rocco Spartano(PIT), John Brookman(PIT), Don Iorio(LGA), Sergio Fernandez(LGA), and Mike Swiatkowski(BOS), convened a special MEC conference call to cancel the event.

so instead, your illustrious leadership has decided to:

Our "Equal Pay for Equal Work” message will be displayed this week on the streets of Tempe and Phoenix using a highly visible mobile billboard that shows what the MEC thinks of management's two tier pilot pay scale. We'll post a picture of the billboard shortly.

Still think it had nothing to do with parity? If you want more, I can post it.

Things are as they seem when you get info from the horse's mouth.

The wheels are coming off!!!

Junebug,

You seem to think that if Doug Parker is forced to increase pay rates to a level high enough the East pilots will ratify a joint contract. And, you seem to think that if 50% of the East's seniority list is Captains, and they have seat protection, and they are looking at a $40,000 per year narrowbody raise, why wouldn't they sell out the East First Officer's?

And with that ratification, of course, comes the Nicolau Award. However, what you fail to recognize is that the East pilots understand they might get a short-term pay raise, but their seniority will suffer year-after-year as pilots with half their seniority bid in on top of them and then they will lose even more money.

Of course ALPA International would love this because it gets the “white elephantâ€￾ out of their living room and provides momentum for other pilot groups to get post bankruptcy raises too.

Guess what, it won’t happen and you are fueling the USAPA fire; therefore, be prepared for USAPA to become our collective bargaining agent.

As Baron Manfred von Richthofen said, "Success flourishes only in perseverance — ceaseless, restless perseverance," which you clearly do not understand.

Wilson polling confirms this. Not only are pilots responding to the polling instead of hanging up, they are responding with a NUMBER!!!! A number that will give them a heck of a pay raise and acceptance of the award.

According to the polling, east pilots want the money NOW and are willing to accept the award in order to get it.

Wow, we agree on something. Starting to feel a little isolated?

USAPA shmapa - SB sees it coming too.

Man, every time you post, I understand why your fellow east pilots bag on you in the emails they send me. Is it true it took you THREE times to pass your upgrade checkride?

Oh, and I found out it was LZ and not HH writing to you.

The US Airways MEC was split on whether or not to conduct informational picketing at the corporate headquarters because the AWA MEC was going to be present and there were reports the AWA pilots were going to try to disrupt the event. What good would it have done for the news media to see this specticle?

The East MEC debate centered around an effective media campaign and how to best use MEC financial resources to get an effective response from management.

According to East ALPA Communications Committee Chairman Arnie Gentile, "Our "Equal Pay for Equal Workâ€￾ message will be displayed this week on the streets of Tempe and Phoenix using a highly visible mobile billboard that shows what the MEC thinks of management's two tier pilot pay scale."

Finally, the ALPA National Officers had other engagements on the September and politely declined the East MEC's invitation to picket, which was another consideration during the East MEC's debate.

Junebug,

Does it make you feel good to purposely mispronounce names, which is an insult?

As far as Stephen Bradford, I saw him in PHX today and he was receiving cards from AWA pilots. Interesting, huh?

I have never flunked a check ride in my life, how about you?

Finally, yes the US Airways pilots desire a pay raise, but they will not agree to one if it means the Nicolau Award is passed on to the company. All your comments are doing is fueling the fire to remove ALPA from the property. Keep up the good work!
