Funny thing is they are now using body scanners, been x-raying all carry on baggage but it seems like only a few days ago, bombs were sent on cargo planes and unchecked baggage.

Bombs were sent from OUT OF THE COUNTRY to the U.S. It would be nice if the other countries (if they wanted to) would tighten up their security, including on cargo. The U.S. is already working towards 100% screening of cargo within the U.S. or going out of the U.S. (air cargo).

I support them. I think it's commendable that they are taking a stand for common sense.

But as I saw someone else post, they need to have them do this right out in the open in public. Don't let TSA hide this away in a back room. Every time you see a TSA person patting down flight crew you should start clapping loudly and draw attention to what a great job they're doing for their country.

I wonder when they will pat down ground workers coming to work who have access to the aicraft!

Hopeful, you are thinking way too logically for the TSA. Since it's all security theater (thank you Bruce Schneier for the perfect phrase) no one would be able to feel safer if they didn't see you getting patted down in a back room somewhere.

And it's all about feeling safer as opposed to actual security.

Probably the funniest story I'd heard for a while was re: a charter flight for a group of USMC soldiers - they had to go through a security check per the TSA and after having to toss their nail clippers and other such "weapons" were allowed to board carrying their M16s and other gear.

Only in America ...

Guess it wasnt on the list!

You mean you haven't been searched trying to get onto the ramp through an employee door?

I'm an employee..Why would I be stopped and searched if I use my PA/Customs ID to swipe throught the doors?

No, what's funny about this is that if a pilot wants to bring down the airplane, there's nothing that screening is going to do to prevent it. It's not like they have a giant axe at their disposal or the ability to nosedive the airplane like the EgyptAir pilot did...

<_< ------- As a matter of fact, they do have an axe at their disposal! Last time I checked, and it's been a couple of years now, it was mounted on the aft bulkhead of the cockpit! ;) Part of their emergency equipment.

I think one of the basic requirements of posting on this board should be the ability to recognize SARCASM. Is anybody aware of an on-line course that teaches the fine art of sarcasm and how to recognize it when it occurs?

<_< ------- Did I pull another OPS?------- Or maybe juniority didn't read a little sarcasm in my post? ;)

I think this is an issue on which both sides have reached a concensus, pat downs and body screens of pilots is just plain dumb. If a pilot wants to kill everyone on board (including him/herself) there is nothing anyone can do about it. When you sit on that plane you surrender your fate to those two up front. Another reason why pilots should be paid and treated well. Colgan Air (and others) make it clear that low wages and long days for pilots can be very costly to passengers. I dont want a guy/gal waiting tables for eight hours jumping into the cockpit of a plane I'm sitting on.

I hope the AA and US Air pilots are successful in taking on the TSA. I hope their Unions sue the TSA over the radiation body scanners [virtual naked strip search] and are successful in court of getting the Full Body Scanners removed from airports. This is just another example of the Feds overstepping their powers and it needs to be stopped ASAP.
