USAirways had a hub in MIA via Piedmont, long before AAmerican. They pulled down service (similar to the PSA debacle) after merging.

USAirways made a habit of shutting down any profitable service they didnt think of?

Brilliant....

...and SWA came in right behind them to establish the largest intrastate Florida presence. If US didn't want the profits, might as well let SWA have them.

MIA was the base for the Florida Shuttle under Piedmont.

And TWA flew to TLV, TW no longer exists and the flight no longer operates. What's you point?

MIA is a very small station for US, they have a few gates in J but are still on track to move to E later this year.

His point is that PI as well as US at one point had a sizable operation in MIA. Give credit to the old US CCY crew for destroying that along with a long list of operations that somehow were profitable until they got their hands on them.

As did UA.

The Florida Shuttle was 32% of Piedmont's gross revenue, my friend's dad started it.

US came in and destroyed it.

Interesting. Surprising you say MIA, that has never been a big market for US and is a small station.

Ever to BOS? We had widebody AA to LAX, AA to MIA and DL to ATL in the past few years

Josh

Larger markets are often focuses of frequency. Which will sell better: 4 flights a day to BOS or 10 (12?)? Find the times and frequencies that work, then upsize the aircraft as needed to accommodate demand.

Never knew that it accounted for that much revenue. I recall PI shifting the F-28 1000/4000's between the Fla shuttle and the SYR hub during the off seasons. I guess this shouldn't come as a surprised since they also destroyed the entire PSA system within 3 years. Still puzzles me how they could take two very profitable airlines such as PI & US, and turn it all into a money losing turd.
