You are all forgetting the main purpose for the war which made it a resounding success...Halliburton and it's subsidiaries (V-P Cheney's company) made $BILLIONS off the war as no-bid contractors on any number of "jobs"--like building shower facilities for soldiers with faulty wiring that resulted in soldiers being electrocuted.

Oh, and I hope you are all following current events in Iraq. Iraq, which was a cobbled together country created by Great Britain, is on the verge of falling apart into the separate tribal/religious warring areas--Sunni, Shiite, and Kurds--which existed for centuries before the British Mandate. I think we will see a Middle Eastern version of the fate of Yugoslavia before the end of 2012. As Delldude said...get back to me in 12 months.

I did a little research regarding the growth of Halliburton during the war and it just isn't accurate that Halliburton made undue Billions.

Over the ten years in question, Net Profit was never higher than 2 billion for the entire company. Most times it was in the 1.5 Billion range annually. So over ten years we are looking at 17 Billion in profits for the entirety of Halliburton. The Iraq operation was a fraction of the total and a relatively modest percentage. The Progressives found a bogeyman and exploited it. No surprise.

Equally no surprise that Iraq is already spiraling into tribalism. Actually prior to the British Empire drawing the lines in the ME, Kuwait WAS part of Iraq just as Saddam Hussein said it was.

The current situation in the Middle East is the result of two Western Nations (US & UK) engaging in interventionist, empire building and seeking to maintain that empire. Iraq is a sovereign nation or not depending upon the will of the people. We should be working hard to sell them stuff, not kill them.

No, the culprit here is the interventionist Foreign Policies of the United States and the subsequent blow back that occurs as a result.

1. Built a Defense system the likes of which has never been seen before.
2. Build an OFFENSE so SCARY that Russia and China shake with FEAR, and use said system on any one or Nation that even comes close to attacking anywhere in the America's

3. Stop sending MONEY to Any Nation, including Israel(They've already said they don't need any US $$)
4. Should a genuine ally (say Norway for example) be attacked, send US NAVY/Air Force help ONLY !
5. If we choose to still Import GAS and Oil, trust me, the Algerians will still sell us Gas, and the Saudi's etc will still sell us Oil. China will still sell us "whatever" as well.

Given that over $1,000,000,000,000 has been spent just in Iraq I find it very hard to believe that they only hauled in about $2 billion a year. I'd bet the farm that there is quite a bit of money that is spread out in a few different places. Keep in mind that only a hand full of the Haliburton subsidiaries are incorporated in the US.



As far as declaring victory and pulling out I am still waiting for something that is even remotely similar to sounding like that.

Critisizing Halliburton up here is liable to get you beat up. One of the reasons Halliburton is so profitable is the Bakken Field in North Dakota a state with a 3.3% unemployment rate as a result of Halliburton developing the Bakken Field. Not to mention another 20,000 direct jobs and thousands more support jobs with the Keystone Pipeline. Note neither venture is anywhere near Iraq

Of course the Empty Suit fights the growth at every step. From Crony Capitalism loans to Solyndra, to incentives to buy Electric cars which the manufacturers can't hardly give away the evidence is quite clear that Obama is as dumb as a bag of hammers when it comes to the economy.
