4th Line update. If some of you have not read it yet Mr. Sokol put a letter out for end of 2012. In this letter he wrote that the 4th line will in fact be a heavy 737 line. Just like we are doing with the other 737's lines. Guess they changed their minds to bring the 717's as the 4th line. This is good, as it will save money in the long run. They need to put the 717's in at ALT and MCO. I have also been told that the 717 stands are being made for MCO. Looks like they will get a "C" Check as we have been hearing. Could this also be part of the 717 griev. in work? I also think more mechs will be hired than they were originally anticipating with the 717 being the 4th line, now that it will be 737 heavy, we will need more mechs. All I have for now.

Congrats on the New Line, maybe you can talk them into starting one in ISP! Lots of seasoned mechanics up here that live out on the Island and would love to dump their long commutes to JFK or LGA.

Good for you guys. Here at AA we also have new lines. The only problem is that we will not be doing the work. The new lines will be in Asia. The TWU made sure of that. Glad to hear more stations opening up at SWA. Should be getting some experienced AMT's from AA applying in due time.

As TWU member myself I need you to clarify your statement regarding TWU. I am assuming by TWU you are citing the local representatives of the specific local in question. My local does not or will not give up our work to outsourcing...

Look with all due respect you are NOT an AMT and you do not work for AA. I understand your loyalty to the twu they do you well as a non AMT at SWA and the twu does very well for dispatchers at quite a few airlines. But they have been down right pathetic in their representation of AMT's at AA much like the iam was for me at NWA. There are quite simply no unions out there with the exception of AMFA that have the interests of the AMT's and that has been proven time and time again. Even though I have my issues with AMFA too until there is a better choice out there I say either AMFA or no union for AMT's.

Word on the street is; Due to the 4th line being the 737's instead of the 717's, looks like we will be hiring 40 more heads than orginally planned. If SWA does what it normally does, hy will more than likely increase the5 per month to 10 per month to get to their goal. The hiring of newmechs will continue thru July of 2013, but may get increased to 10 per month. Good luck to you all tying to get onboard. Act quickly, these positions will go fast...
Lineguy; Yes AMFA is the best choice now. I would not say no union though. Trust me, if we went with no union at SWA, the company would take full advantage of it. Our next step, (if for some reason AMFA didn't work out) we will go wih our own prvate union for just the mechs. Being AMFA for the past several years, has learned us alot to go with our own union...
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!

ATL has a 717 and 737 tail stands already. ATL, FLL, and MKE only do work on the FL fleet with the occasional gate calls or out of service A/C on the SWA fleet, no RON work. We still don't know what these stations are going to look like after all FL fleet is gone or converted. Has anyone heard anything about these stations yet?
On a side note the appearance tech started in ATL and MCO this week.

I was told that plant maint is building 6 aircraft stands for MCO. I believe he said they were for 717's but not 100% positive. MCO already has tail stands, then they would need 6 more for a complete set. 2 FWD's, 2 wings, and 2 AFT's. The "C" check maint being added was my opinion/suggestion. We have only heard of the rumors, but when I was told PM was building stands for MCO, that kinda confirmed the rumors to me. As stated before ATL is also another location that we heard as rumors as being another "C" check maint location.
What is interesting is; PM, to my knowledge, has not started the 4th line maint stands for Dallas yet. With the 4th line starting in July they have very little time to finish the 6 stands for MCO and get the 4th line stands done in time. Make me wonder if the company is planning on starting the 4th line or not... Hmmmm.
