2015 Pilot Discussion.

PHL Pilots, below is a LGA update that we believe is right on point and thought would be good information for our fellow PHL pilots. As a reminder, there will be a Q and A session this Wednesday at the Marriott from 9:00 AM-3:00PM, followed by a negotiating road show(s) sometime next week. We ask pilots to hold off from voting until you are able to review the relevant information, both pro and con. Unfortunately, it has come to our attention that against the wishes of the BOD and inconsistent with past practice, the Secretary Treasurer has been instructed to open the ballot and not allow pilots to change their votes. With this unfortunate directive in mind, we believe the most prudent course of action is for you to wait until you can get as much information as possible before casting your vote. Remember, you have until January 30, 2015 to vote.

LGA UPDATE

THE SHIP IS SINKING

Mr. Kirby Fires a Cannon and Sinks the Entire Ship

We keep hearing about a cannon shot coming to American Airlines that will launch our careers; I think a cannon was just fired by Mr. Kirby and he sunk the ship we call the New American! Mr. Kirby sent an email to all American Airlines pilots last night attempting to go around the Association, negotiate directly with the membership, and “Deflect and Redirect”. These are steps taken directly from the book “Confessions of a Union Buster” by Martin Jay Levitt. Don’t fall for these tactics. Their attempt to divide and conquer will only cause harm to your career and the APA as a body. The end of negotiations is always tense, laced with stress and innuendo from management. Ask any of the LUS pilots and they will tell you that Mr. Parker and Mr. Kirby, along with Mr. Glass, are masters of this process and have used it effectively in the past. It was our collective hope that when we gave Mr. Parker and Mr. Kirby the worlds largest airline they would have held to their word on changing the dreadful management relations we had in our past and actually create the “new culture at the New American”. We could all be “Going for Great!” There is no way this process is headed for great now!

As Mr. Kirby continues to attempt an end run around the Association, it will do him and the rest of the leadership team at American harm. The pilots of American will see this attempt to negotiate directly with them for what it is, simple management spin.
Apparently Mr. Parker can’t compete one on one with Mr. Anderson at Delta without a cost advantage.

Regressive and Vindictive

The BOD received final contract language on the morning of the 9th. This final piece was lending a little more clarity to the process of implementing the International/Domestic Division merger that they so desperately want. It seems to me that they still don’t have a grasp on how the entire division merger will proceed, but this was an attempt to shed some light on that process. For Mr. Kirby to point his finger at the Association and say we are pushing this past the 19th because we were not ready is disingenuous and more deflection of their own lack of preparedness! The time line begins with the BOD reviewing the final language, having adequate time to prepare materials and venues to educate the membership, step through that process and hold the vote.

So eleven days makes a difference to them? Why? You be the judge! It certainly doesn’t cost them anything! They know our process. We assisted them during the Flight Attendant vote, they even told us we could have 45 days for our ratification process and now they go regressive on that time line and vindictive by removing your opportunity to have pay rates retroactive to 2 December should the proposal pass.
You judge who’s regressive!

What’s Next

APA is working hard to create the material necessary to present the proposal to the entire 12,000 + members. For now the proposal will be on the APA website for your review, but we are formalizing venues and dates to educate the membership at all 11 Domiciles with the larger ones receiving at least 2 dates. Many of you are commuters; you are welcome to attend a Domicile event at a location that is more convenient for you. If you go to one other than ours and come away with questions on the clarity or direction of the information you receive, please contact us! Mike and I may even travel to a few to lend any assistance necessary getting the information to the membership.

When the dates and locations are firmed up, we will give you plenty of time to allow you to use the fantastic TTOT system we have and try to move a trip so you can attend one of the two we will hold at LGA. As past practice has held, we will have one near EWR and one near LGA. Just to simplify the process for the pilots, we will most likely use the venues past Domicile meetings have been held in, but Mike and I agree we want to find other locations for future meetings! We expect the dates and times to be announced next week.

It has been a very long and complex process. We have tried to keep you as informed as possible as we both believe an informed membership is a strong membership. Mike and I wanted to get this out tonight to give some clarity to what has been happening and what to expect. We will be happy to review the process of the last few weeks, although it has been effectively portrayed though past blasts and from national communications. Always feel free to contact Mike or me. We will certainly do our best to promptly respond!

END OF LGA UPDATE

Geez, he could not even run AWA, the cancer of the industry.

EVENTUALLY, liberals win.  Check your history, and get back to me.  If you need definitions and can't figure out how to use a dictionary, I will help.  That's what we liberals do...help people...and that's why we eventually win.
Why would I need a dictionary when I can go to the Internet? Try to keep up with the times. I heard you Easties thought the iPad was some company spying device. Are you stuck in the 1980's, the 1970's? I'll bet you miss Jimmy Carter, Studio 54 and the AMC Pacer.

Back to liberals, I found a quote from your era..

“The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.”
― Margaret Thatcher

The sooner jerks like you retire the better.

The "cancer " that saved your fat ass from certain liquidation at your twice bankrupt Schitt carrier?

Kirby told a fib.  We ARE in negotiations.  His polling team said we will vote it down so he came back with another letter pretending to move toward us...

Learn a lesson. We vote NO, he has to move toward us.  The deeper we tell him to shove it, the more his advisers will tell hime to squeal.

Look at the big picture.  They have $7Billion this year.  They can afford giving us some of the items that the APA BOD asked for (but he has yet to give us a single one).... He can afford it.  We must demand it.  Don't sell out at fire sale prices.  Hold the line.  We just learned what happens when he gets afraid he won't get the things he is asking for.

This could get interesting, watch for a possible deal now to between the 2 unions on an SLI thus avoiding the need for MB.

Two unions?

I knew you were out of touch with reality but now I starting to worry about your personal safety.

Be fair "LT Hardy". After all; not everyone, unlike yourself, could ever fantasize themselves an "Honor" suffused, but entirely fictional character from some inane Bruce Willis movie. How many times did you post your "heroic" quote of "Except Honor: and noted it to be from "LT Hardy" of "Striking Distance"..umm..."fame"?

You apparently share a great many "character" traits with your west friends, which is addressed below in post 250.

Agreed.

Regardless of how you vote this is your contract....minus retro active pay...if you didn't learn fro us...apfa...then maybe reality isn't something many are interested in. I do agree with Kirby...to allow a 24% increase to become a negative thing is sad ....for those complaining about this contract is even more sad. But everyone has a right to vote how they wish...in this case it actually doesn't matter...

GOOD LETTER.........While some of our pilots engage in the pleasurable, (but short sighted)- practice
of spending money we don’t yet have, perhaps it’s time to think about what
actually lies ahead for us all should this highly flawed, vague and deceptive
Kirby - (take it, or leave it) - proposal become our contract.
I realize that everyone reading this is immortal and will never retire, become ill,
or injured to the point of not holding an FAA Medical. However should the
impossible happen, wouldn’t it be reassuring to have an unlimited cap, (up to
50% of one’s highest month) – as is the case with Delta pilots?
By contrast, the current AA disability is capped at 50%, OR $8,000, whichever
is less. By accepting Mr. Kirby’s LBFO we will memorialize that ridiculous
limitation, for at least 6-years.
Did you know that after the company’s “generous” payout of up to $8,000, for a
period of 2-years, the company has sole discretion to determine whether or not
you might be well enough to earn 80%, or more of your original pilot salary?
The language is typically - (for Parker/Kirby/Jerry Glass) - VAGUE. One can
assume they are talking about any other job, in some other profession…but it
is strictly for the company to decide and then for APA to grieve. Should they
determine that to be the case…….your money from The New American ceases
coming to you and your family. You will be forced to submit to the scrutiny of
a company medical and legal investigation, hoping they will “grant” you, your
already diminished contractual benefit.
By contrast; those of our peers at Delta, who are similarly unfortunate enough
to become ill, earn 50%- (easily a maximum of as much as $12,000 per month),
until their regular retirement.
Oh…yeah; did I mention the fact that the Delta pilots continue to get a 15%
contribution to their Defined Contribution Retirement….WHILE THEY ARE
OUT, with ILLNESS? Mr. Kirby’s LBFO doesn’t do that.
If we go to arbitration and simply take the current Green Book, for only
11 more months, then what is Delta’s becomes ours….think about it.
Haste makes waste.
This is but one of the many landmines to be found in the Kirby Cram-Down. Make no mistake; this is a continuation of a bankruptcy contract.
The wages that seem so striking now will be at least 15% less than we - (courtesy of iron-clad language in the Merger Transition Agreement) - will enjoy when Delta and United settle their now-open Section 6 negotiations. None of the ridiculous clauses, illustrated by this on example need be anywhere in our working agreement….if we are just a little patient.
Fraternally,

Just something to consider, watch for Deltas results around the 19th I think.

It's OK to be the lowest paid, somebody has to be at the bottom, There's more than just money..
