world port it happens every time the company gives so much to twu. And every time fleet stores get more because there top he most due members. The twu never will care about amts. we're the lowest payed amts in the industry. I'm a avionics mech you can look that up.aanotok. I'm on the amt page so I don't want to here from you after I posted on the fleet side. On a article that had nothing to do with you so I'm going to say I'm a licensed aircraft mechanic making life and death situations not weather a bag made it our not. So I'm sick of the union screwing the amts so that fleet can make 29 a hour to throw bags.. We might get our delta plus 3 but I gaurente fleet will get more. Weathers it's vacation time awe sick time but the twu his going to take from amts and give it to fleet

It is my opinion only. It is formed from being involved in the IAM and the AMFA, and the industry since the mid 80's.

Having been at the IAM palace at Upper Marlboro for schools and having seen "leaders" of these so-called unions in action, I have some knowledge.

Having said that, you all get the union you deserve. I know that electing leaders to international positions in the TWU and IAMAW is nearly impossible, you still hold power.

When I saw less than 5% of members showing up for a local lodge meeting (where the entire local was in the same town and there were 3 meetings for the day where votes counted) then complaining about what was passed? Pfft.

There is a reason I left the airlines (although I am still very involved in airline operations) I was not willing to be a scab. (even though the IAM supported members trainimg and performing work in my scope).

What I speak is truth. Feel free to prove me wrong and I will be there with you cheering.
Upper Marlboro is where the IAM HDQs is, Placid Harbor is in Hollywood, MD.

From what Glenn says they agreed  to screw his group in favor of the other groups.

worldport what is wrong with the mechanics negotiating on their own? Why is it that the mechanics require Fleet  or the the other title groups?

My son and I had a discussion last night (seriously) and he does a lot of non-rev. He always takes video of the takeoff and landings and a lot of his shots are of the wing. He just got back from MSP and while we were watching the takeoff, we both were looking at the wing in amazement how these machines fly. He then ask how much a mechanic made because he felt it was amazing the job they did to keep these planes in the sky. I told him they were underpaid by a lot and he couldn't believe it. We both are still in awe how you guys keep them flying. TRUE STORY!
Having said that, it's garbage like conehead777 that makes me back off from you guys getting more. Comments like conehead makes in regards to fleet is getting extremely old. Fleet does more than load bags clown, and in some situations it is a life or death situation as well. While I think you guys should make waaaay more than you do, stop blaming Fleet for all your perils. If and when I get $29 an hour to "throw bags", it won't be from your pocket and I will have earned every penny of it, conehead!

Most of us Buck, especially me wish you guys would have voted in a new union. A lot of this bickering and bull**** would have stopped and maybe you guys would have had a industry leading contract. Then mouths like conehead would have nothing to blame fleet on.

Some say we just throw bags others say we took their jobs which is it ?
I will agree with them, they should have their own union. If they had their own union it wouldn't be so quick to agree to give up jobs to fleet. But as fleet takes some mechanics jobs a contract company is taking fleet jobsWhat I dont understand is how these guys can keep planes flying but cant figure how much they will be making with a simple formula as DL + 3%

They vote on their own contract, no fleet service votes on the M&R CBA.

Everyone from the IAM is a mechanic and related as well as the TWU for the M&R negotiating team, except for Sean Doyle, since you have no mechanics at AA and the TWU that would step up for the ATD.

So you have 11 mechanic and related and one fleet service, so explain how Fleet negotiates your CBA?

Not all mechs are arrogant like conehead. We do different jobs and we have a "union" that is suppose to look out for us. If I'm not mistaken Fleet Service has lost more jobs then A/C Maint over the years.

It's time for mechanics to stop whining, we are in this position for several reasons, the industry has changed, union power has dwindled to the point where politions brag about taken on the unions and beating them. Let's not forget that we have VOTED IN our two concession contracts of 2003 2012, and our union leaders said no to a pay raise and contract extension in 2008 and we voted down a 2010 pay raise that would have put over $50k in cash in our pockets right now. WE on the whole, are partly to blame for the position we are in.

That said this is the time for the association to get a industry leading contract!!!!

There are many more out there like Conehead who are disgusted with the TWU and their Social need to have every group under their umbrella.
It comes down to the fact that for at least my thirty plus years the mechanic has been the least compensated within the industry and within the TWU, the last thought of. Why would the union ever consider having a contractual punishment of half pay on the first sick day only for the mechanic? It goes on and on for years and contracts. I am pleased that the other work groups get what they can. But do not kid yourself, even back when Crandall was here, he stated that he would not mind compensating the mechanics but could not compensate all work groups similarly. Basically there is only so much of the pie and the mechanic eats last.

Perhaps Fleet has lost more jobs, in fact the practically disappeared...if   it were not for  independent outsourcing of their work which caused damage to the aircraft at an unprecedented scale.

You are correct,  there is an union here, but as to whether they treat us equally is the question. Blame Fleet , no the blame that the TWU is still representing the mechanics is the mechanics fault. Perhaps those that do not actually work on the aircraft or it's components should willingly join with the other work groups and let the mechanics go their own way? Stop Whining? why, to stop whining would mean that you are willing to accept the injustice you feel has been done to you.
Is it really true that an Injustice to One is an Injustice to All?
