Former TWA flight attendants still hope to return to the skies [St. Louis Post-Dispatch]
11:42 a.m. 12/26/2008 By Ken Leiser, St. Louis Post-Dispatch Provided By Knight Ridder/Tribune

Dec. 26--Karen Marshall still waits for a letter to arrive, inviting her back to the job she loved.

One year ago this week, U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill brokered an agreement between American Airlines and its flight attendants' union to preserve recall rights for Marshall and nearly 1,200 other former TWA flight attendants.

Isn't it "funny" how the customer service favorable comments have increased in direct proportion to the recall %s. TWA found the same thing happened after our long strike and lock-out. Hiring standards? Experience? Or, a genuine appreciation of the job? Who knows.

Before the comments start, yes, we have our "stinkers" too...lol

Good Lord. Why would they want to come back to a company with such toxic environment between management and labor? Further, it's just what they need is more grannies in the cabin.

It has been noted by AA management that the "grannies" provide much better service to the passengers.

There is something to be said for the people who want the job after all they have been through VS the people who might feel stuck in the job.

Unfortunately, I have a feeling that this economy is going to get worse. If it does, then I can see AA (as well as others) cutting back even more.

That may indeed be true; but do you think that AA management really cares? All they see are numbers; and those who are awaiting recall are topped out in pay and benefits. If they can avoid recalling before the end of the extension, which is almost a certainty in this economy, they can then hire off the street at bottom dollar and minimal benefits.

Across the board cuts to occur starting February...

Gee, what would the AA f/as do without that cushion at the bottom? The very first thing that needs to be changed is the loss of any seniority (except for pay) for any leave. Secondly, there should be a leave status that returns after all furloughed. We used to call ours 12B. And of course there needs to be an unlimited recall for all furloughed. If AA would get everyone back, then there could be hiring from the street.

By the way, we had new hires too. Not everyone was my age.

I have never understood the concept of cutting staffing and service (in a service industry) when you're trying to win customers. This is the one time you should increase the staffing and service. It certainly doesn't take much these days to out perform the competition. Perhaps increased staffing should be a negotiating priority.

I dont see us hiring off the street until 2012... Perhaps AA will give special treatment to the former TWAs who want the job.... After all AA has all their personal files and can see who has been a good employee..

You make it sound like AA F/As dont know how to give good customer service. We did just fine before TWA got here, getting many awards from different organizations.
I have worked with many TWA F/As and some are good and some are not so good. I have seen it first hand.

I will repeat what I said, the AA management has been impressed with the quality of service provided by the ex-TWA f/as.
