WN Mechanics seek mediation

Answer this. What leverage did the UPS mechanics have that the SWA mechanics apparently do no have?
UPS mechanics overwhelmingly passed a strike vote and twice asked to be released from mediation.
UPS has less mechanics and less aircraft than SWA.
UPS are Teamsters. SWA are AMFA.
???

They had been negotiating since October of 2013. If they had leverage, it wasn't very effective.

They were very effective, voted their contract down, had a new offer in four months, topping out 65 an hour. Also they backed off increasing their medical. That's got to be the dumbest statement, I have seen.

You can compare the UPS contract to SWA or any other passenger airline and the passenger airline will always come up lacking. Why bother.
I don’t know why. But it you think the Teamsters at UPS were not very effective, then what do you say about AMFA, here at SWA.
Also I see a lot of talk about the NWA strike. Apples to Oranges. NWA was bleeding. SWA is setting record profits.
If the March meeting does not result in a decent TA, then a strike vote should take place.

All I know is comparing us to UPS is:

I agree with you, labor is labor. We maintain aircraft that fly living, breathing passengers, not boxes of stuff and freight. Our cargo is much more precious. We should be the highest paid, but try to convince your nearest airline ceo.

You would play right into the company's hand to replace you. If you have nothing to lose, and a long career then it's a warranted gamble.

The only time you are allowed to strike is if this ever gets to self help. If that happens you are an “at will” employee. I know you already know this. An approved strike vote does not mean you strike. It’s just in case everything goes to hell an you don’t have much to lose anymore. Better to be prepared than not at all.
