Will Oneworld lose JAL?

<_< ---- Bottom line! Could AA continue to exist without JAL?----- Could AA continue to exist without the goodwill of it's employees?------ The answer to these questions seem to me to be a simple matter!!!

American was quoted saying that they would spend millions of dollars to make this deal work with JAL but remember not to long ago they were talking about bankruptcy and more jobcuts could be possible, Hmmmm!! wonder where AA is coming up with all this money all of a sudden, from an airline that was almost broke a couple of weeks ago. It seems to me it's all smoke a mirrors what they preach to us about bankruptcy, remember folks there in between contract talks with all there bargaining groups, just remember when they mention the words bankruptcy again what you should think. Of course this is just my opinion.
I generally don't reply to this kind of thread, especially since I am from the competition. We (the workers) think of the monies going into this kind of transaction as coming out of a checking account. There are all kinds of ways to pay for this kind of deal as a major corporation and we as "little" people" dont understand the process. So in respect to the workers of AA please don:t view this as such. It's a chess/poker game with corporate america.

This will be a "defining moment" for AA, because it will force AA to show us ALL what direction they are truly headed in.

YES, if One World falls apart, then it's pretty much becomes "Game-set-match"

On the other hand, Absolutely DOMINATING the air corridor from LHR to BOS/NY/ORD/DFW/LAX then on to NRT(and beyond) is VERY "interesting" to say the least.

LHR-NYC-LAX-NRT are THE Most valuable air routes in the World.

I don't care HOW big DEL-DUH gets, because on their Best Day/A-Game, DL could Never beat AA in a (air) Fist Fight !!

The Real question is, ....Does AA feel like fightin'......!

<_< ----- The "real" question is: Are you willing to live with concessions for the next six years to win this "fight"?

Welcome back NHBB!

American Airlines will team up with British Airways and Qantas Airways to offer cash-strapped Japan Airlines fresh capital and expanded business ties, two sources said, aiming to fight off a rival offer from Delta Air Lines.

The proposal, which will include a capital injection from American Airlines but may not bring money from either BA or Australia's Qantas, comes as Delta holds separate talks to invest in JAL and woo it to a rival airline alliance.

AA employees are already the most generously paid in the industry. If the pay is not sufficient to your liking, quit and find another job.

AA needs to make long-term investments in its future, and JAL is one of those investments. Hopefully it happens.

I tend to agree. AA has to try, at the very least. It would be a big, big mistake to just walk away and let Delta have that much control and access to Japan and Asia. They are too big and control too many routes as it is after the Northwest purchase.

The best deal would be if Oneworld airlines band together to take a stake so it's not all on AA's shoulders. I've been some press about this in the last day or two.

Delta should be excluded from this on competition grounds. Regulators (and certain hub-state legislators) are making a huge fuss over the proposed AA/BA agreement, but where are they now that NRT-huge Delta wants yet more access and control?

Gerry is done. The Northwest people running Delta now are well versed in bare knuckle airline fighting and unfortunately Arpey and his "Whiz Kids" aren't.

Kiss JAL goodbye.

For OneWorlds sake, they better hope they don't lose JAL to Skyteam. OneWorld is already as it stands, a far less extensive network than Skyteam or STAR, losing JAL would be a horrible blow. If this happens you might see others jump ship as well, as they can maximize revenue in the other 2 alliances, with better prescence throughout the world IMO., which is why I would say JAL is looking at DAL and Skyteam now.

JAL going to an alliance with an airline in direct competition and operating through Japan with 5 freedom rights may not be in their best interest.
