With PIT going to focus city status, will they move MAA to PHL or CLT? Thats of course, if its still around? Why not move those planes to PHL and CLT where they can go head to head with the predator airlines?

What about all of the facilities US has in PIT? Will they remain while theres little service left?

Wanna guess? I'm picking CLT, if only for space considerations.

My question is how many people are going to be allowed the option of moving to the new potential location to keep their jobs.

Well CLT does have its new Express Concourse which is very nice and spacious.

As far as moving people to other jobs, I guess you would call it Bumping Rights. Which means if you still want a job ya gotta go where your Seniority will hold you.
Which mean people will be getting bumped all over the place and the Junior people will be out on the streets unless you have the opportunity to start at Wal-mart wages for MAA.

My guess would be a lot of them, since US figures that they'll quit, and if they don't US will pay out a small fortune in unemployment.

That, and it's my understanding that the pilot, FA, and mech groups in PIT all tend to be very senior, in which case you will see the bumps in earnest (more for the pilots and FAs, I'd imagine).

Clue they may pay out a small fortune in unemployement at first but it doesn't last forever. Unemployement would probably be cheaper in the long run then keep on paying the senior salaries in years to come. I am sure U would rather they just quit or go on unemployement for a few months. :(

And they are in the process of expanding it. I was shocked when I asked someone on the crew bus what was being built there and they told me the express terminal was being expanded. They just finished the other. I just have a feeling ...

PHL also has a brand new Express concourse with jetways that the EJets can use (AirTran used a couple gates there for 717s). Theres also a brand new hangar right next to the terminal, a large crew room, and tons of office/classroom space in both the terminal and hangar thats currently occupied by Allegheny. The terminal has its own parking garage, security checkpoint, food court, and ticket counter. The F terminal is superior to the B and C concourses as a facility (certainly not for customer service though...)

Why would MAA be transferred from PIT to begin with... Maybe Maintence and other things would go to CLT or PHL... but think about it. CLT and PHL both have the majority of express operations run by..... you guessed it, our good friends @ MESA. Whom, by the way... let us not forget helped us out when we were in Bankruptcy. I'm sure they wouldn't like MAA just coming in to taking some of their work in the other 2 cities. Besides.. We gave them the FL routes for helping us out and pulled Piedmont out. consider that.

If US keeps anything like the schedule they put forth in the "why PIT needs us" study they put out a year ago, I'd expect to see MAA stay in PIT, if for no other reason that stuff like:

BOS
LGA
RDU
ORD
MCO
DCA

etc will be on RJs. The only mainline citites I can imagine out of PIT would be LAX, SFO, PHL, and CLT.

My guess would be PHL if anywhere. CLT has only 17% originating traffic which is worse than PIT. There would be no need for additional planes. I personally think that the remaining flights out of Pit will be mostly MAA. That is only my opinion.

Sounds like what I've heard about the "Grand Plan" is that U is going to run a Point-To-Point "Focus City" out if PIT. Therefore, it doesn't sounds like MAA is going anywhere. That's what MAA's for...Point-to-Point.

So what happens to all the PIT only feeder stations? Places like GRR, TOL, FWA, EVV, ERI, etc? Do we fold up all those stations, or continue to feed flights out of PIT. When they say PIT will become a focus city every one assumes it means 20-30 flights a day. DCA is a Focuse city with 200 flights a day and tons of connecting opportunities. My feeling is we will see a flight schedule of around 250 flights a day with mainly RJ / prop serivce and jets to PHL, CLT, LAX, SFO, SEA, PHX, LAS, MCO, TPA, FLL, MIA, BOS, DCA, LGA, ORD, DEN and SAN. The MAA/Express feed would be to places like BWI, RDU, GSO, ORF, BUF, ROC, SYR, MHT, MCI, DFW, IAH, MSY, RIC, TOL. FWA, GRR, DTW, EVV, CMH, CAK, MKE, etc,

I don't think you will see MIA, DFW, IAH, PHX, or MKE from PIT. US will probably give those up the the respective hub carrier.

I think there is a distinct possibility that SFO, LAX, and DEN will be operated by United.

I disagree Clue.

Looking at local boarding data......I have seen where 60-75% of the boardings for PHX, MIA, DFW, IAH and MKE are local PIT customers, not connecting traffic. We may not serve each market with 3-4 flights a day, but I think we will still have non-stop service.

Just as an example....on a recent PIT-PHX flight, 85 out of 120 customers were PIT local boardings. If we were to eliminate the non-stop service, the only way US could provide service to local customers is to connect in PHL or CLT.....not likely to happen.
