What Us Wants

All I can say is if there is anyone in denial it is you. If you don't believe that the LCC's have completely changed the paradigm of the industry going forward you are sadly mistaken.

To papaphrase from on old Bruce Springsteen song "These jobs are gone forever and they ain't comin' back."

Mr. Bronner will recover his investment one way or another, that I am certain.

So many on this Forum always say they have something better lined up or it would be easy to move elsewhere at better pay/working conditions. But, they're still employed by U. Why is that? Maybe the grass isn't as green as some might profess.
N9,

Get real.

LCC have been around since the late 1980's - present ( Nations Air, People's Express, Jet America, Kiwi). These airlines, and hundreds of other LCC have failed not because of compeitition, but because of their business plans. Competition has been around since the beginning of capitalism. U's present situation has more to do with the "business model" than it has to to with competition. A sluggish economy with high unemployment and fuel prices going through the roof (like in 1979-80) is what's creating a delayed turn around for all the legacies, Charlie Brown. You may have quickly forgotten (so let me remind you again)....labor just gave $1.1 billion in concessions...

As everyone (but you) knows, businesses don't survive on lowering labor costs "alone". Everything that management has shown on the slide presentation could have been implemented immediately after emergence from BK.

Any excuses you want to share why your mangement team didn't "run with the ball" then?

As far as your thinking that the "grass might NOT be greener on the other side"....one will have to wait until after the vote, now, won't one?

For the first time in history the LCC's are dictating the fare structure the market will bear. In the old days the legacy carriers with deeper pockets could merely undercut the LCC and drive them out of the marketplace.

Now, in an ironic twist of the marketplace, the LCC's are doing exactly that to the legacy carriers. Witness SWA vs U in PHL. Jet Blue vs AA/UA at JFK. AirTRan vs DL in ATL.

Actually, the economy is not sluggish presently as you suggest. While the unemployment rate was 5.6% in May, 248,000 new jobs were created.

I have no idea why management has never implemented any non-labor cost savings measures. They have hardly been addressed in the 15 years since the US/PI/PSA mergers. Finally, consolidating facilities such as RES and Training/Simulator Facilities has been announced;it's a start.

Hopefully, if U survives, they can also bring all the managers and executives together under one roof in a common Corporate Headquarters. Imagine how much executive time has been wasted over the years shuffling back and forth between CCY and the RIDC Park.

It is unconscionable isn't it. How can Labor collectively ante up 1.1 Billion in concessions and still be on the brink again?

By the way, you don't have to wait for the votes to be tabulated.

N9,

thanks for the "kick in the butt out the door", but I'm union...and I have a vote to cast......

How the he// is there any 'productivity' room left in any contracts after 2 rounds of concessions and BK?
Answer was given by an senior supervisor years ago to his manager when more and more duties were being placed on his shoulders.
.
"Why don't you just give me some roller-skates and a broom? I can strap the skates on my shoes....stick the broom up my arse so I can sweep the floor while I am darting from place to place trying to do all that you want me to do!"
.
Let's see....we would have cleaner airplanes, ticket counters, gates, ramps, hangers, cargo offices.

ROLLER SKATES AND BROOMS FOR All ! :p

I enjoyed it. Thats what our F/As need. If US Airways ever got 747s they would have to be fitted with those Stair-chairs for the F/As.

"Gladys, you start setting up the cart and I'll spear the lemons when I get up there."
I'm sorry. I gotta do this......

Hello, my name is Erma. I am the flight attendant in your area. for simplicity sake i am going to name you three gentlemen. (Erma, without removing an unlit cigarette from her mouth).... Your my ABP #1 and you are my ABP #2 and you will be my ABP #3. I would Like to let you gentleman know, that with my training and with your undevided attention we should be able to get through this safely and efficently. once the aircraft reaches an altitude of 10,000 feet and you hear a 2 bell signal, i need you three gentlemen to release your seatbelts and come to my assigned jumpseat. once here i will advise you of your assigned duties. Now i need you 3 gentleman to pay very close attention in the event i am albe. ABP #1, what i need you to do is remove the beverage cart from it's secured location and place it along side one of the lavs; blocking it. this is a must. I can't have traffic while setting up my cart. ABP #2, what I need you to do is to retrieve 2 ice bags from the ice bin and set one on each end of the cart. Using an old school stir stick i will ask you to cut off the tops of the ice bags, thus revealing the contents of the bag. after that ABP #2 i will have you get limes and lemons from the ice bins and seperate them into halfs and placing them into plastic cups. be sure that they are speared with the same type of stir sticks used to open the ice bag with or ABP #3's job is going to be hell. ABP #3, this is where you are very important to me. Once the cart is set up, i need you to push the beverage cart up to the forward part of coach as ABP #1 will be on the oppisite side of the cart. Once you have reached the forward part of coach, be sure to set the parking break and work forward to aft. ABP #2, you will stay back here with me, drink a little coffee until the boys get back with the cart and I will have you break the cart down. In the event I am enable, no ones duties change. Do each and every one of you understand your duties and can you repeat them back to me......

ok, why am I unable to edit my prior post..... sorry about all the damn misspellings. I blame it on the American Lite.

US Airways Airbus order is for 10 A330-200s, 13 A321s, and 6 A320s, which are scheduled for delivery in 2007 through 2009.

Exiting bankruptcy (this number has changed due to the A320 overhaul oursourcing dispute) the company had 1 A320 and 6 A319s parked in the desert and an active fleet of 279 jets, for a total of 286 jets.

The 29 orders and 7 parked jets equal 36 Airbus aircraft, which is just short of the 10 B767s and 31 B757s or 41 B767/757s.

The new business plan envisions adding new aircraft sooner than 2007. Once the company has a competitive cost structure in place, it will likely have its credit rating raised by both s&P and Moody's. Then the airline can return to the credit markets to finance new aircraft to grow the mainline at a cost structure similar to the LCCs.

If this occurs, seniority will be improved and furloughed employees would be recalled, which would be a breath of fresh air.

Respectfully,

USA320Pilot

Wait a minute.... "It was only in the paper"?
Would the Post Gazette arbitrarily post figures like that without saying where they got them from or who within US Airways gave them the information?
