If any AAer were to ask Me(an AA retiree) how I could/would be able to bring this about, I'd have to say honestly that I don't know. However "It's" possible, "IT" could happen. It's Definitely worth the try.

For those of you who were around 30 years ago (say) 1982, you'll remember AA having to re-new/re-invent itself.

(now here comes the BIGGEST 2 letter word in Webster Dictionary).................................. "IF" .......somehow the following groups...............Shareholders, All three Unions, Non Union people..........spoke with one unified voice, and made Bob Crandall an offer he could'nt refuse (in other words)......."BOB, do WHATEVER you have to do to turn AA around", ...explain to me Why "IT" could'nt be done, just like it WAS DONE under Crandall(and I believe Casey), back in the very early 80's ???????

AA back then, stood on the brink as well ! From the recent interview done by Charlie Rose, with (uncle) Bobby, I Never heard him say that he would NEVER go back to AA !

In my opinion, Now is NOT the time to Talk about what did/didn't happen in 2003 !!!!!!!!!!

Mature comments please.

Thank You !

Bears, he won't do it. He's not going to ruin his reputation, and he's not the right guy anymore.

Well Eric, I'll buy into the reputation part but, assuming (uncle) Bobby wanted to do it, AND if he was given Absolute say-so over all decisions, he IMHO would be the right man for the job.

I'm sure there's a lot of AAvantage folks who may have no real choice but to go over to DL/UA, but I feel strongly that said people, would re-jump back knowing RLC was back at the helm.

Lokk Eric, I realize that this (right now) is hypothetical talk, but with Crandall I NEVER count him out of anything!

Using your rather large 2 letter word "IF", if Uncle Bob did come back on those terms the company attorneys would be spending most of their time in court defending AMR from "hurt feelings"-type lawsuits from the many "special" groups within the corporation.

Personally, I'd love to have him back - on the other hand, he's actually earned his retirement. I know if he did return, the company would be rebuilt, without a doubt - painfully perhaps, but the job would be worth returning to when one was recalled from a layoff.
