Voluntary Options Opening

I'd be shocked to see the VBR or SIS come up as options, since they both imply severance and medical continuation.

Without that, what value is left to the employee? Travel?

If that's the goal, you'd probably have better luck lobbying to get the travel policy in Article 30 upgraded to unrestricted D2 instead of the annual allotment of 10 RTs.
For the early-out, you must be 45 w/20 years seniority. You only get (10) RT D2 passes a year.

The old VBR was good because it gave passes until regular retirement. Some took the VBR, got their lump sum and then retired a month later.

People under 45 have to wait for another VBR or SIS. Usually, you have to be 45 to 50. The early-out has limitations on travel so it’s not good.

Any voluntary program is better than involuntary layoffs, but you kind of said why the VBR probably won't be offered: it attracted people who were close to or already able to leave on their own terms.

If it wasn't practical to offer VBR or SIS back in 2009 when the company was still solvent, I just don't see anything happening now which includes meaningful severance.

That is why I said modifying the travel provisions of the existing early-outs might be an easier win. Lowering the years of service/age could also be an option the company would consider.

Unless they want to get rid of the deadwood like myself, maybe? ^_^

I would take the VBR or SIS but I cannot because of the age requirement. <_<

I have heard flight attendants say that unless they offer them at $500,000 they won't consider retiring early. In what planet are these people living?
That’s absurd. I’d be happy with unlimited passes and call it a day at this point.

LMAO :)-D. WAT!!??
Who do these people think they are??
I knew an elderly woman who worked for Sky Chefs for a mere ten years. She retired with unlimited passes on AA.

I never imaged after 20 years that I’d be holding out for unlimited passes for standby status on an airplane. Priceline positive space is better any day. Thing is—these early-out programs do not include travel on OA. You really need “retiree” status. <_<

USAirways has a 65point unlimited passes retiree plan years+age=65
We had something like that at one time: age + seniority had to equal 60, I think it was. I don’t know if they’ll bring it back. The voluntary options tend to be available for those who have no reason to take them.

Lauri Curtis, our former and now again V-P of Flight Service posted in her Flight Service column that this overage is 500 flight attendants. So, they are actually talking about eliminating 2800 f/as. As I am between 1500 and 1600 from the bottom of the seniority list, I guess I shall be toast before the end of this year.

You'll be gone way before the end of the year. No more TWA cushion for you.

It’s terrible. :( It would be helpful for all concerned to offer VBRs to something like age + seniority = 60. Pensions and medical as we’ve known them are gone. Frankly, we never should have counted on them—it’s an airline people.

I drop trips now but with the newly proposed look back to be employed deal, people like me will have no choice but to work our full schedule again. High time flyers will have a difficult time finding trips to pick up. Try living in New York city without flying high time. All the look back does is remove flexibility. It was the one good thing AA had.

Don't be too sure. The company has said the furloughs will be done "as needed", not all at once.
The numbers remain about the same actually when you consider those coming off leave in Apr and the effective date of the new leaves which also begin in Apr.

Maybe you’re right. <_< They had said it was getting difficult to offer the bid leaves month by month. How will they implement new scheduling rules without court approval? Do you think that they plan to get an “ok” from the court by Apr?

When I’m on reserve, often I just sit there going nowhere fast.

The best way to get people to leave is make them work. There are alot of people who have been sitting around doing nothing for years.

They’ll work the minimum. Women need more time at home when their kids are young. But when the kids are older they often return to work.
