Us Airways Troubles Heighten Union Talks

"Even with substantial employee concessions, is it too far gone now?" asks Harvey Miller, a former bankruptcy lawyer who worked on the Continental and Eastern cases. Most companies don't survive a second bankruptcy, he says.

How many AIRLINE companies have actually filed for bankruptcy twice, and how many of those have survived?

I only know of two that have filed Chapter 11 twice while continuing to operate and both of those are still here: America West and Continental.

Braniff shut the doors, reopened, shut them again, reopened, and then shut them for good. But each of those reincarnations was a different company using the Braniff name.

PanAm has had similar experience, as had Midway.

But if the company manages to keep the doors open while reorganizing, they seem to have a reasonable (statistically) chance of survival.

I believe that U is headed to BK with or without union concessions.

The big issue is if they can win conessions then management will voluntary go into BK. ( Just like before).

BUT, if they do not get concessions then U's creditors may see that 900mil in the bank make claims aganist it and an involuntary BK would occur. Management will lose control and asset sales may happen.

Fed review will not go well at end of Sept. with two big pension payments do and fuel at $45 per barrel and a failing bussiness plan.

Look for Bronner to grab some of his investment along with GE,AmerEX,Airbus ect.

I WOULD NOT like to see this happen however thing are looking pretty sad.

TWA filed three times. The third entry was the pre-packaged sell to AMR corporation.

Realistically, who would want to acquire US in one whole chunk?

Iwasn't suggesting that, but pointing out TWA entered and exited CH 11 twice.
