US Airways Super Bowl Charter flights (fans only)

With all the planes in the paint shop and being modified, do we even have spares sitting around to handle our own irreg ops? We had a canx flight this am and couldnt get an extra section for some reason. FLL had a canx and did manage to get an extra 319, but that doesnt do a lot of good when its a 757 to begin with. Forget the extra ops right now and just get the flights we have to run please.

Knowing the magement team we have i dont think any extra flights will go.
I work in a station that had the superbowl a few years ago and we saw CO,DL,UA,NW,even WN run extra flights in but we stayed with our sam amount of jets we had !!!!!!

I don't think PHX is set up for the A330 or B767, is it? I've never seen any USAir cans sitting around....
British Airways flys the 747 and 777 into PHX. Hawaian uses the 767, and use to park in the B international concourse. And Lufthansa use to fly the A340 into PHX. So I think we could park our crappers easily at Sky Harbor.

Too add: TWA and ATA both use to fly the L1011 all the time in PHX. Northwest also flew the DC-10 into terminal 3 frequently. Delta flys the 767 and is planning on adding the 777 next month into PHX. Also don't forget AWA use to fly the 747-200 into PHX back in the day. ;)

but does the company own any of the ground equipment required to work the flights? Plus I'm not sure how likely Hawaiian or BA would like USairways using their cans for baggage. While the company may consider "charters" or extra sections using the A330 and B767, they wont' sit there for a few days, they'll turn right back around, probably as a revenue flight, back to CLT or PHX, which will require they take luggage with them.

Airlnes are OK with 'loaning' ground equipment to eachother, but then the people using it have to be signed off on using them... hence my post. I know when we had IRROPS in my station we were limited because not everyone was signed off on certain aircraft.

Every major airport has a ground handling company that can provide the equipment and personal to run it.

And the Containers would be on the inbound flight so no need to use another airlines.

wouldn't that be a union violation though... if the plane then does a regular flight back to PHL/CLT?

don't get me wrong.. the SlaveShip330 would do well in PHX... especially to CLT and PHX or even Hawai'i. I was just under the impression the CBA's did not allow the company any level of flexibility.

I think Tempe will use their marketing savvy and add a DH8 BOS-PHX with fuel stops in MDT, HTS, SDF, STL, ICT, COS and DRO. That ought to attract a crowd, huh?

And with the first negative comment about the management on this thread.... Rook is the winner! It took longer than I would have expected. Quick, somebody refer to Doug as "Dougwieser" and then say everyone in Tempe is a moron.

Doesn't it go without saying that everyone in Tempe is a moron?

No I would say the employee's and the travellers who continue to work and fly US and still complain about them are the morons.. If you dont like working there.. leave... if you dont like flying them DONT... its funny how many times you people on here complain over and over again about them.. but you continue to fly and still work for them... if anything Tempe knows what they are doing... they keep having the morons work for them and the dumb a**es that complain about how bad they are still fly them...

lol

Your right. We could contract them out. But we (HP) use to run the operations on the ground for BA and Hawaiian at one time. So maybe we have the equipment or borrow. I don't know exactly, but I am sure one of our A330's or 767 could be parked at any of our International gates just fine.

Having a place to park a 330 or 767 isn't an issue. The int'l gates will work or even the gates at the end of the concourse. Didn't the HP 747's park at the end? The problem is not having the cans to load the return flight, unless the amount of ground time between arrival and departure is so much that they can use the same cans. The k loaders and dollies (I think that's what they are), can be borrowed from the ground handling for BA/HA if they're not in use.

The problem more so is the lack of available equipment to fly a widebody to PHX. I think there's a 330 in ARA now as well. Just some larger narrowbodies, 321s, 757s will work just fine.
