Pratt & Whitney Awarded $2 Billion United Airlines Fleet Management Program

EAST HARTFORD, Conn., January 29, 2004 --- United Airlines has awarded Pratt & Whitney a 10-year Fleet Management Program for the airline’s fleet of V2500-A5 engines. The Fleet Management Program with United Airlines is the largest aftermarket agreement in Pratt & Whitney history and has an estimated value of more than $2 billion USD.

The 10-year agreement includes two five-year options and covers over 300 installed and spare engines that power United Airlines’ Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft. Pratt & Whitney will provide maintenance services at its Columbus Engine Center in Columbus, Georgia.

“We are extremely pleased that United Airlines has chosen Pratt & Whitney to support its V2500-powered Airbus fleet,†said Pratt & Whitney President Louis R. Chênevert. “United Airlines and Pratt & Whitney have had a long and rewarding relationship for more than a half century and this fleet management program agreement demonstrates the success of that business partnership. We believe the Columbus Engine Center’s world-class competitive turnaround times and high quality maintenance services were key factors in the award of this agreement and we look forward to helping United Airlines create value with their V2500 maintenance.â€

“This agreement represents another important step forward in United’s restructuring efforts, and Pratt & Whitney’s commitment sends a strong message of their confidence in our turnaround plan,†said Rick Poulton, United’s senior vice president and chief procurement officer. “We are delighted with the cooperation between United and Pratt & Whitney in reaching a deal that both drives significant cost savings and reinforces United’s highest standards of quality and safety in engine maintenance.â€

The Columbus Engine Center is part of the Pratt & Whitney Aftermarket Services network, which offers overhaul and repair services at nearly 30 locations around the world. Columbus is a dedicated V2500 shop providing total maintenance and engine overhaul services.

The V2500 engines are manufactured by International Aero Engines, an international consortium in which Pratt & Whitney is a lead partner with Rolls-Royce. The other partners are Japanese Aero Engines and MTU Aero Engines.

Pratt & Whitney, a United Technologies Company (NYSE:UTX), is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines, space propulsion systems and industrial gas turbines.

Go ahead and twist the facts, this letter and the work is under the watch of amfa! If they cared it would have been discussed prior to this announcement that amfa had an objection.

Wheres the Rockwall Collins work, that is under the twu's watch? Why did the twu allow AA to open 35 Intl Maintenance stations that are not reflected in our R.O. report under the twu's watch? Let me guess, when AMFA wins at AA, it was all under AMFA's watch the whole time to. Better yet why not blame the AMFA supporters for this twu failure just like at UAL.

Has the outsourcing of work at AA caused any reduction in the work force at AA? Is'nt it also true the outsourcing rate at AA has declined over the last 12 months?

Rest assure, as I write on this form, if Amfa gets in at AA the layoffs will start and work will leave!

NWA where 100 amfa positions are eliminated per month!

United where 250 +/- positions have been eliminated per month!

Their is no plans in the works to change these stats! Please explain to us what is being done to curb the Layoffs under amfa watch!

Ual_tech was bragging about 25 being recalled why not show us the news article?

CIO still hasn't addressed the outsourcing of Cabin Service work across the system!

Please show us the numbers and the news articles about your Question? Apparently you have the answer so show us?

Articles??????????????????

At JFK, Cabin Service has been replaced by an outsourcing firm. Until two weeks ago, a company called AIRWAYS CLEANERS were performin c/s duties on all overnight aircraft till about 11am. Two weeks ago, AA found a cheaper company to do it, and the first day of the new company, the cabin service people put a hole in an A300 and it was in the hangar over a week. I suppose now I'm lying about overnight cabin service being farmed out.

Incidentally, the cabin serive people who were displaced are now in line cargo.
But they still have jobs, so therefore no jobs were lost, right CIO?

CIO:

Please show us the outsourcing numbers as a percentage and where under federal law the existing contract between the members of the TWU and American Airlines expires upon AMFA becoming the bargaining agent.

Here's a bit of strong amfa contract language....from Mesaba Aviation...

ARTICLE 4 - MANAGEMENT RIGHTS

A. The Association recognizes that the management of the business of the Company and the direction of the working force is vested exclusively with the employer. The management functions shall not be used for the purpose of discrimination against any employee because of Association activity or for the purpose of evading any of the provisions of this Agreement. To the extent not inconsistent with provisions of this Agreement, such rights include, but are not limited to, the right to hire, promote, demote, transfer, lay-off and recall; assign and reassign duties, schedules, and hours of work; discipline and discharge employees for just cause; establish and amend Company policies, rules, regulations and procedures; determine initial employment qualifications; determine the size of the workforce; and discontinue all of or part of Company operations.

B. 1. The Company reserves the right to continue to contract out the types of work heretofore customarily contracted out.
2. The Company reserves the right to contract out any work when it determines that its facilities or personnel are not sufficient or available. The Company will endeavor to maintain sufficient facilities and personnel, and will not contract out work for the purpose of reducing its maintenance forces or discriminating against members of or the growth of the Association. For the purposes of expansion and growth, the Company will endeavor to expand its in-house facilities.

C. In the event of circumstances requiring an immediate response, qualified management personnel or other qualified employees may assist with work normally performed by employees covered by this Agreement.

CIO,

Bringing back 25 people is hardly news worthy.

Where is your 'proof' of UAL loosing 250 positions a month?
I haven't seen it and we haven't lost anyone since the last big layoff.

Furthermore, why do you continue your deception of AMFA 'losing' the V2500?
UAL has outsourced this engine since 'Day-One' (1993-first Airbus Delivery).
The IAM allowed it to be outsourced for 10 years and now you blame AMFA for
not bringing it in-house? Where is the logic in that?
What is disheartening is that you already know this but continue to try to
deceive people into believing that this is something new and is somehow AMFA's fault.

So, just keep posting your BS, intelligent people don't buy it.

(B) The Union recognizes that the Company will have sole jurisdiction of the
management and operation of its business, the direction of its working force
, the right to maintain discipline and efficiency in its hangars, stations, shops, or other places of employment, and the right of the Company to hire, discipline, and discharge employees for just cause, subject to the provisions of this Agreement. It is agreed that the rights enumerated in this Article will not be deemed to exclude other preexisting rights of management not enumerated which do not conflict with other provisions of this Agreement.

The Union recognizes?

Hey Coward, come out to SAN and you don't have to read any articles about farmout. The twu would never print in the twu express propaganda rag that they ALLOWED work to be farmed out. The company doing the Cabin Service work on RON a/c is accomplished by Source One. Show me the article where the twu allowed this work to be farmed out.

And Ken, what office of the amfa do you want to hold someday? I know you're not self-serving, just a concerned mechanic for other mechanics, oh boy.
