Ual F/a Chaos

Man, where does one even start with this? It's so inane that I can't even believe the AFA owned up to it. So a bunch of flight attendants barged into this guy's classroom at work in super cool co-ordinated T-shirts hoping to surprise a member of the UAL board and he wasn't even in the classroom? And even if had been there, what were they thinking? Did they think that the guy had a few billion in his briefcase under his desk to fund their pensions? Did they think that this guy of all of a sudden would have a change of heart (not that it would matter) because a bunch of loud, color coordinated rabble rousers are really, really mad about the Chapter 11 process? And by the way Mr. Board of Directors guy, you had better read that part about not using the 'C' word or we'll sue you for trademark infringement. UFB!

And on top of that they threaten wildcat strikes (I won't use the real word for fear of copyright infringement he-he) as if scaring passengers away and making UAL's financial position WORSE will better help the AFA's situation in getting a better contract or their pensions funded? You gotta love the AFA at least for the entertainment value.

ualdriver,

What part of "people are at the END of their financial ropes" DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND ????????????????????????

It does'nt surprise me that the "lower paid" ual employees(F/A's, ramp etc) are virtually at the same point, as the F/a's and ramp were at Eastern Airlines.

What I believe is about to happen VERY VERY SOON, is, that these folks have reached the "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH", like EA.

Now if I was a pilot who was making 175K a year, an I was suddenly cut to a measly 100K a year, I supose I'd "stick it out" .

Good GOD man, "wake up and smell the doomsday coffee" It's very close at hand !!!!!!!!

NH/BB's

PS,

"I DO NOT WANT IT TO HAPPEN TO YOU UAL FOLKS, BUT I FEAR IT IS ABOUT TO"

I thought it was great. It was original and got noticed and served to increase public awareness...exactly what was intended.

UALDRIVER just about all the lower tier employees have reached the limit. It's one thing to have a pay cut and still bring home six figures and the lower tier employees barely keeping up with inflation!!!! Get a life, and make plans to move on out of the aviation industry because from the sounds of it your lower counter parts are about to put you pilots out of a job PERIOD!!!!

and the lower tier employees barely keeping up with inflation!!!!
The flight attendants have been falling behind inflation for at least the last 20 years. I don't know any other lower tier pay group that has ever kept up with inflation, not since I've been here...20 years.

Hopefully things will turn out in labors favor this time. Maybe, just maybe the need for a job action won't be necessary. This isn't just about UAL, its about all of us and we need to all stick together. Heres hoping that labor gets a break on Tues. Cheers from AA!

"What part of "people are at the END of their financial ropes" DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND ????????????????????????"

Actually, I understand what the term means. But do you? For a bunch of people (were you referring to the typical AFA, IAM or AMFA member?) supposedly "at the end of the financial ropes" who currently have a job , can't find a better job because they're still here, they're about to REALLY be at the end of their financial ropes if the unions follow through with their threats and are successful.

Smell the doomsday coffee? That's funny. I personally would have used, "The sky is falling," but that's me. Anyway, it's just a job, man. Relax. They'll be others.....

If this place does go up in a big puff of smoke in the coming week(s), I hope the flight attendants wear those really cool fluorescent T-shirts while they're at the unemployment office with me out here in IL. It will make for a really colorful line and the bright colors will surely lighten everyones' spirits! Some of the IAM guys have these really cool GIANT strike pins they wear on their uniforms. I hope they wear them, too! They'll be great conversation pieces as we wait for our turns....

blah......stop the drama. If United is going to die, it will be a Loooooonggg death. Hahahahahaha...enjoy your paycuts all you "we back the union" folks.

You sound like you're extremely sure of yourself. Just out of curiousity, when exactly will UA shut down?

While I won't bother getting involved in AFA or AMFA politics, I think the AFA would have been much more effective for it's members had they all stopped by the admissions office instead of going straight to the classroom.... ;) . The sooner you realize that Flight Attendant is no longer a 'career' because of those willing to to do it for a few years after high school over at the LCC's to "see the world" (or at least a few domestic airports) for $10 an hour. If you were counting on raising a family as a single parent, send the kids to a good college and retire after a 'career' as an F/A, those days are gone, and the sooner you realize it the better prepared you'll be to face the future.

Armchair quarter backing is easy and in endless supply but having the guts to make a stand is rare. Its easy to make a bonehead comment about going to the admissions office but when your in a fire fight not everything always goes as planned so I'm sorry if I'm not impressed by your wit.

Why not ask yourself why any airline job should be a career? The pilots I know fly because thats what they love to do so why not pay them all 50,000 grand a year and weed out the ones that do it just for the money.

Bottom line is nothing gets done by passive personalities so to all the UAL people that have an ounce of good ole American backbone left,,,,,,,,,,,,,,ROCK ON

I too, am scratching my head trying to connect how my union engaging in CHAOS is going to "protect" my career?

Setting back and doing nothing sure as hell is not protecting your career!

Such a SIMPLE MIND you have. If you don't see this as simple posturing, you are delusional. Must be sad to be old, retired and unable to move on with your life.

AFA spent the last year sending hundreds and hundreds of letters to us trying to keep us from voting them off the property. They are trying to look as though they have our best interests at heart when the facts prove that the only thing they are trying to keep is our monthly dues$$$.

As far as the mechanics go, they are playing right into the companys hands. LOCKOUT!

Soooo, scared about that pension of yours NH/BB? Afraid you won't be able to afford the early-bird specials? Like I said, a looooooong time!!!

While it's oh so cute to read an AMR, any AMR employee speaking about "taking a stand", REAL courage is courage to walk away. It's courage to re-evaluate your life at middle age and take steps to make it better. CHAOS would have a pretty good chance of shutting the whole place down. Why not leave on ones own timetable? Why not say "sorry this contract isn't enough, I'll take advantage of UAL for as long as it lasts to position myself for life after UAL?

Will pilots fly for 50K? Sure, especially the incompetant ones (which if you hang out with AMR pilots, you know quite a few of). Not this one though. Now please go back to your cowardly little AMR hole, and don't come back until you yourself have the sack to actu ally make a stand. Coward.
