U.S. government, two airlines say open to settling merger fight

A crack in the DOJ armor?
Nope. Here comes the huge concessions called upon by the DOJ, and the merger will go thru, but with the largest divestures than any other past mergers. Not a crack in the armor, but more like they are seeing they should have not let some other mergers go thru in the past, and are now gonna have to release the reigns a little more. The law suit is simply in place to force said concessions that the DOJ would accept to back away from restricting the merge, that is the only reason there was ever a suit filed, to be guaranteed concessions would come out...

But, then the question arises, if the concessions are so draconian that the merger no longer makes financial sense, what has been gained?

If the so called 1000 city pairs are not slot controlled airports, why would he DOJ even care? Any airline could start service between those cities, wouldn't that drop fares? Have those city pairs been made public by the government, I don't recall seeing what cities were effected....

I don't think they will be that big. However it will be nego's both sides starting high and low, and they will meet somewhere in the middle. I don't think it will get that big, but it will be felt, and it will be the last merger of any size. But, if it does get that big, then AA needs to come out a stand alone and do what they can. Yes it may take a long time but they probably could survive with other mergers in the future, but there will be very long term struggles.

What kind of concessions can even be given in this environment ? Are we going to start shuttering HUBS and throwing a few thousand workers here and a few thousand workers there onto the street ?

nope , politically impossible ..

the economic environment is fading world wide and the egg heads in DC who once though that the economy was just BOOMING months ago are taking a long hard look at what could be a much bleaker future ....

The sensible thing is to allow the merger to go through with only minor concessions .

AA will give up all its current DCA slots, US will give up all its current LGA and JFK slots and DOJ will be happy

You didnt think twice when you threw your own coworkers under the bus when you voted for the money and to the hell with everyone else!

Hypocrite.

uh excuse me , I AND those people that I "threw under the bus" voted YES on the contract , so I wouldn't even say that I THREW them under the bus , more like I got down on one knee and kind of helped them to slide themselves under the wheels , more of a cooperative effort really .

No you threw them under the bus, you were told what was going to happen over and over and over, yet you still were dressed up as Doug and Al's Cheerleader.

Dont worry, you will probably be in the same boat if the merger goes through, as you will see PHX getting downsized.

there you go again , talking about things you didn't even live through ... we here in the west had to fight the East side of our union AND the company at the same time ....

but if you would like to choose to remember it as us Dressing up in a wig and going RAH RAH Doug Parker !!! you feel free ...

you should know that even back then I still liked parker and I wasn't shy about saying so ... but I also still fought back against the company and encouraged my fellow co-workers to do the same ...

it must just burn you that I can both like our companies' management and at the same time fight against the company ...

You are making stuff up, the East didnt fight the west on anything, you got a sweetheart deal to the west and the East barely got anything.

You were warned by numerous East rampers what would happen if you voted yes, and thats exactly what happened.

You are not a unionist, you are all about yourself, you voted for money without any regard to your coworkers who got laidoff because of your vote.

You never fought the company on anything, and numerous posters can verify that, I know a certain lead in PHX who told me all about you.

This is the same company who said "Fleet Service is not a career", this is the same company who wont negotiate in good faith and reach a fair CBA.

Blow smoke up someone's rear end, you cant lie on here and expect not to be called out.
