Sure that is what the company has sitting at the table, but behind the scenes you know as well as I do they have a specific agenda given them by the real negotiators, lawyers, and professional advisors.

You surely dont think those in front of you were the extent of their team?

I'm sure the MBAs and Lawyers are behind the scenes advising the company.
 
I'll guarantee it, and it's probably not even behind the scenes -- the people they hire for the contract negotiating side of HR are most likely to have MBAs, degrees in labor relations and/or law.

There's a quote about self-representation (sometimes incorrectly attributed to Abraham Lincoln) which is true in this case as well:

The biggest sign this Union is either sold out to the company or inept is that after years of failing to secure industry leading contracts they still have not attempted a different strategy or hiired professional assistance. This POS Union will spend millions in dues payers money stolen from workers under threat of termination to fund campaigns of Democrats, but when it comes to negotiations it is status quo and resort to cheapest way out. Huh? :blink:

We are not fools for clients though as the not-Lincoln quote states, we are prisoners of a Union/Company Alliance that influenced the Federal Government that denied us a democratic vote out.

Hence, one of the many issues we have with the TWU...They know better than opting to have professional help at the table.
The company is doing what a company is supposed to do...which is get the best deal for the company....But we have a union that is giving them just that....the best deal for them.

To this point the negotiating commitee has rejected the proposals. I'm sure the International and ATD has probably wanted them to accept them and put them to a membership vote. Thank goodness that hasn't happened. There is way to much in these proposals besides money that is just wrong. One main thing is accepting the contract without full text language on the working together program. That's just one of the issues without full language. It's unacceptable. Sooner or later the International will try to force the commitee to bring it back. I for one hope they don't till it's worthy of a vote.

Because the threats of outsourcing overhaul and/or Chapter 11 haven't happened yet.
Also, did you ever stop once to think that these proposals are so bad, that they were not brought to the membership for a vote?

The TWU likes to give the illusion that they are tough negotiators until the threats start.
Then they fold like cheap suits.

There are 2 TWU's, the locals and the international. The locals are elected and have to answer to the membership on a daily basis. The international are appointed and do not answer to anyone. The local officers are paid rather low depending upon their local. The international are paid $150k plus, along with an expense account. The locals run the negotiations up until the time that the international expands by buying votes at the negotiating committee on behalf of AA.
 
You know, the TWU represents more airline workers that work at airlines other than AA. Have you looked at those contracts? Maybe it would be worth someones time to look at those airlines, could be AA is most of the problem.

There's a critical difference between Southwest and the dispatchers at various airlines that are represented by the TWU and AA. At those other Locals the Locals own the contract, that means that the person who signs off on the contract is elected by the members who fall under the contract. At AA the International owns the contract and the person who signs off on the contract is appointed by the International. So the workers at SWA and a hundred other TWU Locals have more of a say at picking who signs our contract than we do and we have zero say in who signs theirs.

All the elected representatives who meet with the International for negotiations sign as witnesses to the agreement between the International and the company. Legally the locals have no say, they are witnesses, they are not party to the agreement, sure we can have votes but there is no legal mandate that says that the International could not simply ignore the outcome of any vote of the committee and as we have seen they can exclude representatives from as many locals as they choose from any part of the process, currently only six locals are represented. Recently they shrunk the committee that actually meets with the company and of the seven man sub-committee, six voted in favor of the June supposal.

Twelve years with no monetary increase.You would have to be a mentally challenged to vote yes.

And you say six out of seven voted yes.

When you see one ofthese yes voters put a helmet on their head and hit them with a 5 pound sledge. If that dont snap them out of it use a gun. Thanks in advance.
