DFW
Terminal D, DFW's new international set to open Saturday.
Oh Boy! Warning Avoid if you can. Ready or not ( N-O-T ). As far as thr ramp is concerned,
a fiasco for sure. While it may turn out well in the long run. It is sure to be 3 ring monkey circus for the first week or so. Knowing several of the FSCs scheduled to work there they have related to me they have no idea where to report or what their assignments are to be.
I may eat my words, but from what I've seen and heard, be ready for an interesting week.

Whatever your problems are they can't beat the opening of Terminla 9 at JFK. Electric walkways, Escalators, elevators innop. PA working in some areas not others. You have confusing signs to the new Airtrain, Termimal 8, and a Parking Lot, that is currently under construction ( Passengers are bused to other areas of the airport ). From the new gate 32 to gate 1 in Terminal 8, one takes about 20 minutes to walk, and that's at a brisk pace without baggage and without going through TSA at Terminal 8 as an employee.

Good Luck.

You would think that they would have this down by now since the heads for D have been in the bid since July. Ridiculous.

Fine, just don't compare it to Miami's new terminal. We are dealing with only 1/4 of the moving sidewalks functioning in a post hurricane enviroment.

Wait a second, it was like that before the hurricane, never mind

Where there any major malfunctions at D this weekend???

Apparently not. The Dallas Morning News had a fluff piece about the terminal opening, and travelers loving it, and they would be the first newspaper to jump all over a chance to smear AMR had there been any operational problems.

I took a stroll thru there last week, and it is indeed an impressive building. Too bad that the rest of DFW wasn't torn down and replaced with such a customer friendly structure... Great food court options, some decent sit-down restaurants, moving sidewalks, and

Word of advice to local DFW people -- regardless of which terminal you're flying out of, you might want to consider parking at D and taking Skylink to your departure terminal, provided you're not checking bags.

There are more than enough security lanes to handle rush hour traffic, and the parking has those nifty open-space counters which tell you that there are X spots available on the third level, Y spots on the fourth, etc. as opposed to having to drive in endless switchback patterns at the older garages to try and find an open spot....

Ok I worked there on Sunday. Been told 500 bags missed. One motor burnout in bagroom , mass confusion. Absolutely worker unfreindly downstairs. 2 breakrooms for the entire bagroom one has as little 3 small round tables with three chairs for a lunch area also air not working. bags being dumped where-ever.
Maybe the FA's started CAOS (cause havoc around the system), I would beleive it but I know they did not help in the design.
We can only thank Tom Green mgr. Who has a dislike for Fleet Svc. .

Breakroom for maintenance is hitting 100 decibels as they built it directly below bagbelt redirecters. This was originally the main office but management didn't like the noise so they relocated so the peasants got it.

500 more than normal, or just 500 for that terminal. DFW's bag performance has sucked for the past five years, so how would you explain all the time when Terminal D wasn't open?

500 bags term D alone. There were at least that many on Monday for term D.
They are still trying to upgrade the baggage control computer. The system still doesn't know if a flight has left or not. Term D is so poorly designed, I can assure you they never asked anyone who has to utilize it.
All you hear is "this is dumb" or "why didn't they do ...."
It is typical of mngt they'll not admit they effed up. They will spend fabulous amounts of money for the "new and improved". Slowly the clerks will adjust and make it work.
Another problem manpower shortage.
here is an ex 1 CC controls 2maxis by gate D27, 10 men. Also 2 maxis with 10 men by gates D20 about 125 yds apart. There is no direct access meaning he has to walk out to the ramp gates and around a bldg to get from one area to another. This same CC also controls 2 encoders by gate D6 which is the 1st gate in term D as there is no gate D1. There is also in the interior 2 more men under his watch for the O-size belt outside and if its too big for the belt they must go up a small flight of stairs into the bldg, down the hallway to the
O-size elevator. What a beautiful design??? Now this poor ol' CC doesn't have a vehicle or even a bicycle to get around. His control office only one for the bgrm is by D40. How is he effectively control his work area? There are 2 breakrooms one by D40 and the other by D22.
There are no heat or air controls in the breakrooms. Moniters don't work. We have a printer (brand new) which doesn't work. I had called for the Tech-rep. When he came, he said these were bought without the sabre print capability and will have to replace it with a new one. He said yeah they did it all over on the ramp. There is only one copier for the entire ramp (used of course). The cont CC has to walk Oh! this place is so poorly designed.
Undermanned, underequiped and underspaced (ie space utilization) and in 4 weeks will come the glowing reports from mngt "how wonderful life is" Are you listening Arpey?

A repost but it is now reality...

I don't get it, or maybe I do???

According to Facility Maintenance guys working on the problem with the baggage system, it will be months before they actually have the system fully functional. They have relayed this many times to the higher ups, but here we go with a grand opening Denver style.

I am also told that Fleet Service can expect unlimited OT to sort the bags at the gates if need be from this soon to be nightmare.
