9.96 an hour

That is what the lowest paid fleet service worker makes under the IAM contact .Right now the lowest paid West worker makes 9.00 an hour .

Here’s the math on the wage … The EAST pay is about a dollar more an hour than our 9 , so how much more money is that in just ONE month ?

One hundred sixty dollars

Here’s what you can buy with 160 dollars .

1. One ipod nano for 149 dollars

2 A two day trip to san diego staying at the blue dolphin motel for 50 dollars a night leaving you with enough money to buy a ticket to sea world for 56 dollars

3 Enough beer to get drunk several times .

4 . 2 xbox 360 games or ps3 games

5 . Makeup of some type , nail polish , also maybe some fancy soaps ?

6 . Enough food to feed your starving family

7 . Enough money to pay the taxes for a trip to Europe or Jamaica

8 . Enough money to find fun “things†to do in Amsterdam or Jamaica

9. More beer

10.If you like to read you could buy several dozen used books .

11. If you DON’T like to read you could buy several dozen used books and then lite them on fire .

12. A neon under kit for you car .

Doug parker is a fantastic CEO…. He is the poster boy for Adam smiths “wealth of nations “
Let’s see how a CEO really thinks …. !!!!MAKE MONEY!!!!!
There you have it , that’s the crux of it ….. not a very complex thought , but the ways in which one brings it about can in fact be quite sophisticated .As pertains to us , let me describe the guiding method on sedating us and keeping us productive .
First of all , always stay positive when dealing with employee issues , smile , and employ upbeat phrases and slogans like “get on board “…be sure to look them in the eye , also shake their hands .If employee’s ask you a direct hostile question that you already know the answer too and know that it‘s not something you are prepared to reply to , answer back that you don’t know , but that you intend to find out….. Or pass it off to one of your subordinates so you avoid the negativity .
Why the act? Because a positive, upbeat person always comes off better than a negative one … it’s hard to berate or belittle someone who has looked you in the eye , shook your hand and smiled at you .We tend to view people who display these traits as friendly and honest … There are many who fall for this gimmick .

How to keep the America West ramp workers happy and powerless …
Status quo … Remember it , live it , breath it ….Treat the workers just like you have always treated the workers , this will lead them to believe that nothing ever changes , so why bother trying to change anything ? If year after year you feed the same people hotdogs and hamburgers , then year after year they will come to expect the same thing …
Hire hard workers , and then praise them! Praise them often! Have your supervisors tell them what a fantastic job they do! And how they “wish “ they had the power to give them a raise …. But basically the praise should suffice … Send them on ego journeys never to return . At this point I should mention that in the old days of yore, if someone praised you for your hard , dedicated work , it used to be followed by a raise , but here at AWA the reply was always that we had a union contract , and hence no raise could come about . I find it ironic that the same company that has praised us for our efforts year in and year out , who are now given the opportunity to give us all raises , chooses to delay them , for as long as they possibly can …..

Another ironic twist is that if you take the P out of praise you get RAISE :def of ,

vt move something higher: to cause somebody or something to move upward or to a higher level or position
.
why delay the legal battle with the IAM union ? Because it saves money of course … time is money , and money is time baby !

Sadly, PHX ramp management has changed its warm-and-fuzzy-gee-whiz for the bullying why-the-f%$K-ain't-this-f&^K$n'-plane-out-yet shtick. Not flattering. Then there is the ramp director on the parking garage with binoculars and radio looking for gawd knows what.

IAM members at most stations on US EAST start at $9, not $9.95.

Ya know what? Rampers will never make what CEO's make, hate to let you down.

Rampers will never make a ton of money, you should know that before accepting the job.

I'd love to see you all get paid more money, but as long as there are more people out there willing to do your job for that pay, then you really don't have much of a bargaining chip.

So, yell, kick scream, protest, make signs (have someone spell check them) and be angry that you aren't getting what you think you deserve. But just yelling and protesting and being angry without a solution is a monumental waste of time.

You want to make more money? There are lots of jobs out there that pay more, there are lots of opportunities to make yourself marketable so that you can earn more. But, if you spend your whole life waiting for someone to give you what you want, you will be sorely disappointed. You need to decide what to do in your life if you wish to be where you want to be, no one else is gonna do it for you.

I wish you all the best of luck, but life isn't always fair, and its your choice whether to work as a ramper or not, poor wages, working conditions and all. Best of luck to you all.

(I fully expect the ensuing flamefest from everyone, but thats my opinion, take it or leave it, no skin off my back)

Let's extend your logic.

There are tons of folks willing to do CEO and veep work for much less than what current CEO's and veeps make.

They are just as qualified - shoot, there are line animals at US that have more quals than do middle management and as many or more than the execs. They do come up short on butt-smooching and being yes-people, two prime requirements for those slots.

And current execs can't claim superior results, either in company operations or in the market.

Soooo, when is the 'market' gonna act and replace the deadwood with cheaper talent? :D :D :D

Where are they going to get all them "LEGAL CITIZENS"?

Quit you say, that's what you do, but not for others.

We used to have GSE foreman in pit hide in and around the bag carts, hehehe guess they got them to come out there, too much time on there hands I guess.

Stop! Why too much pessimism! We have alerted Dawn Gilbertson US Airways PR reporter. She sees the differences. It is her reputation that she reports. Wait and see if Channel 12 Eric Watson sees it the same way. And then the AFL-CIO. And the IAM and the TWU. And see who can actually address the Railroad Act against the industries that RUIN unions and try to compete with airlines against the EU. Who will survive. Who will relate to workers. Who, really cares?
Freakie Thursday. Why? Day before Friday the 13th.

well first off only lAS and PHX are getting 9.00, every field station is at 7.50.

about tomorrow, i plan to be there and i would like everyone to go inside HQ and sit in the lobby until the police come and remove US. Do you really think it will bother the company to watch us from the 9th floor of the building and laugh down upon US in the phx sun? I hope people will be intelligent and and give Good credible information to the media so they can properly report.

I don't know what country you were raised in , but here in the United States , we fight for what we want , sure the market won't always hold what we want , and then it gets corrected , but at least we TRY for better pay and working conditions , if people in our country had never "tried " for better working conditions , then your boss would still have the right to demand that you sleep with him ,and if you don't didn't like it then go work somewhere else ... If we had never striven for progress in our country , your co workers would still be able to demeain you based on your race , sex , relgion , etc ...
If you ARE an american , you are most likely the type that advocates allowing the masses of undocumnted immigants into our nation ... Your foolishness is a danger to our country .... You seem to lack the capacity of understanding that a dangerous imblance between rich and poor usually leads to social strife.... Study your history ... No matter how lowly a profession a person holds , it should at least be sufficent enough to provide a decent life ... Without that alternative a dark doorway opens up before us .

To sum it up , yes life is NOT fair , it isn't fair to ANYONE alive ... You have to fight for what you want , everyone has to fight for what they want ,no one will EVER give you anything .... To the victor goes the spoils!!!!

My mom always said, if you didn't have a plumber who would fix your toilet ?

Lets see, hmmmm.....why don't we just let the passengers carry all their bags through the bag room, schlep them all the way out to their gate of departure, in a blizzard no less and put them on a belt loader, jump to the top and put them in the bins.

Now, as I was stating, there is a job out there for everyone, educated or not. This is America where we should be making a decent buck to take care of our families. Usairways would castrate us to keep medical costs down. You see, they don't understand that there are times when we can't sleep at night worrying about how to stretch our meager earnings to put food on our tables and a roof over our heads.

Shame on you to blast the job of a baggage handler. Your life must be absolutely miserable.
Try going to bed with nothing in your stomach you fool !

I stand tall for all of our "employees" in Philadelphia.

I fly an airplane and made $7.21 per hour on duty last year. $9.25 would be a great pay raise.
