(LOUISVILLE, August 12th, 2003, 10:30 a.m.) -- C.T. "Skip" Miller, an airport executive in Fort Wayne, Ind., has been hired as general manager of Louisville International Airport.
Miller, who has been executive director of Fort Wayne International Airport for the last four years, helped lure two new airlines to the city -- a passenger service and a new cargo airline.
That ability was one of the qualities the Louisville Regional Airport Authority's board was looking for in its national search for a general manager, Chairman J. Michael Brown said.
During a special meeting Monday, the board voted unanimously to hire Miller to replace Jim DeLong, who is retiring. Miller, who did not attend the meeting, will start his new job Sept. 8.
"We think we've found a great person for the job," Brown said.
Although Fort Wayne's airport is smaller than Louisville's, Brown said it is a "microcosm" of Louisville International, in part because it has both passenger and cargo planes.
Also, Fort Wayne is served mainly by regional jets, the 50- to 90-seat planes that shuttle passengers to hub airports, Brown said. Louisville International has had significant growth in the number of such jets in recent years and is building six regional jet gates to accommodate them.
Miller comes to Louisville as it faces several projects under way or planned. Miller will also work to
construct a new hangar for Republic Airlines, a start-up jet service that plans to locate its corporate and maintenance headquarters at Louisville International.
