Does anyone know the status of Republic Airlines? Are they still going to operate as a USAirways Express carrier and if so when?

(Read the last paragraph)

(LOUISVILLE, August 12th, 2003, 10:30 a.m.) -- C.T. "Skip" Miller, an airport executive in Fort Wayne, Ind., has been hired as general manager of Louisville International Airport.

Miller, who has been executive director of Fort Wayne International Airport for the last four years, helped lure two new airlines to the city -- a passenger service and a new cargo airline.

That ability was one of the qualities the Louisville Regional Airport Authority's board was looking for in its national search for a general manager, Chairman J. Michael Brown said.

During a special meeting Monday, the board voted unanimously to hire Miller to replace Jim DeLong, who is retiring. Miller, who did not attend the meeting, will start his new job Sept. 8.

"We think we've found a great person for the job," Brown said.

Although Fort Wayne's airport is smaller than Louisville's, Brown said it is a "microcosm" of Louisville International, in part because it has both passenger and cargo planes.

Also, Fort Wayne is served mainly by regional jets, the 50- to 90-seat planes that shuttle passengers to hub airports, Brown said. Louisville International has had significant growth in the number of such jets in recent years and is building six regional jet gates to accommodate them.

Miller comes to Louisville as it faces several projects under way or planned. Miller will also work to
construct a new hangar for Republic Airlines, a start-up jet service that plans to locate its corporate and maintenance headquarters at Louisville International.

Republic Airways is owned by the same folks who own Chautauqua Airlines and Shuttle America- Wexford Management. It was formed in response, I believe, to CHQ pilots voting No to Jets4Jobs. Since then, they have changed thier mind Wexford are pushing ahead with Republic anyway (just what everyone needs, another starvation-paying contract carrier  ) The CHQ pilots (and Shuttle too?) pilots are in some tense negotiatons at the moment and would like to stop Republic from starting up. Its similar to the situation with Mesa and Freedom Air (anyone know what ever happened with that?) Anyone from CHQ please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think thats the gist of it.

Republic - while constantly changing start-up dates (similiar to MDA) is here in SDF interviewing this week. All the positions they are hiring for now are mgmt and training type jobs. A side-note, Republic CEO Tom Handley is a former US Airways VP.

Here's the latest internet rumor on the Chautauqua pilots pending TA.

Straight from the new TA:

1. Republic WILL be formed, but same seniority list with CHQ, pilots will be able to choose where they will fly.

2. Republic will fly only ERJ170 aircraft.

3. Republic will initially recieve 50 ERJ170 aircraft for code share with United Airlines.

4. Air Whiskey's contract will not be signed by UAL but go to Republic/CHQ instead.

5. CHQ will be recieving 30 new ERJ 135/145's for Delta Codeshare.

6. Pay for CHQ will be raised 3% above failed TA.

7. CHQ will start using pref. bidding beginning Jan 04'.

8. CHQ will hire additional 800 pilots over the next 2 1/2 yrs.
