When mother nature decides to rack havoc on our system and commuters don't plan well...
how many unable to commutes does one get? Just yesterday nothing was open for daily...
then some flts cxl due to weather from Pit ect and Daily was busier then Kmart and the
blue light special.
Just putting it out there, the lack of planning on commuters and how many of their nine lives they use on
just getting to work.

Why are you even starting this.....we get it you hate commuters!

Im just trying to understand with all the crap that goes on
weather wise how people avoid not to fly over and over.

Oh don't get me wrong I use to commute to the west long ago.
But never had to use a sick call for a check in.

how do you know that people aviod flying over and over again. Just asking.

You close bases and force someone to move/commute hundreds/thousands of miles away, unable to commutes are a cost of the crazy way the industry does business. Most commuters I know are pretty responsible and plan well.

And one thing I've noticed through the years, and it may not be true in this case but, most folks who complain about commuters have never commuted. They grew up and lived their whole lives 10 miles from domicile. They're the same ones who whine about how no one goes to union meetings anymore.

That is an interesting observation.

I wonder how much it would cost to purchase an appropriate video conference setup that could perhaps be shared by the pilots and FA's so that folks either at home, in a hotel on a long layover or even sitting Hot/OPR could listen and perhaps even participate via their keyboard.

I'm going to stop there because this is as close as I want to get to a labor discussion in a non-labor thread, but you get the idea.

I second that observation (in a non-union way, of course)

I understand that the airline has displaced, furloughed, recalled and closed bases but we all have a JOB to do. I am not going to make this into a reserve vs. blockholder issue but I have to ask as well, "Just how many UTC's do ya get"? If you sit reserve and you know your to be in base by midnight you sometimes have to fly that morning giving up your ENTIRE day at home. MANY and I'm not talking about about ALL but MANY b/h's have a trip the day before OR have known about it for quite a while. Ya watch weather and see the potential for poo poo to hit the fan is possible. PLAN ACCORDINGLY! ! ! ! I'm sorry but on days when there is weather sure you'll have your stuck crews which will create systems trips but there were sooooooo many trips open due to f/a's NOT being able to make it to base. I'm sorry but we all have an obligation. If I can manage to make it to base and sit for six days as a reserve b/h's and rserves with future trips should plan better for their trips. The same goes for a reserve awarded a trip and released. They need to plan accordingly when checking in for a trip. You can tell what trips are systems trips and what are single position trips by some not able to make it. With all this said, if you list for your two flights and they cancel what more can you do? I'm not saying that it's always the f/a's fault. Sometimes weather and cancellations win over and you just can't make it. I just love those single position trips that open just minutes over a quick call. 🙄

Thank you sooooooooo much for showing all of us how to commute. None of us have ever even thought about planning.

With what this career has become, I'm sorry but I won't give up a off day for to make sure I get there early. That is what sick days are for.

Really? Is that how we're supposed to do it. I had no clue. Thanks for the "How To Commute" lesson.

Diamondcutter.....Iheartflying did I hit a nerve? Your welcome on my free lesson on how to commute. Tell a friend. Obviously there are quite a few out there who don't know how. Again, pass it on. 😉

You didn't hit a nerve...I just think your rant is a bit useless. I commute and I plan accordingly...so do the majority of people that commute. What is your point really? Why repeat what we already know?

Maybe not everyone out there is as "with it" as you are. My guess is that Travelpro was educating those not up to your standards of commuter savvy.
