So let's see what happens now with the number of LOI's. So what is the reasoning for pulling QC off the b check..... besides getting ready to lay them off!!

This is how USair manages their maintenance. You are correct, there will be surplus technicians, get ready for another possible buyout or possible some downgrades.  Their motto is more with less.

Are they pulling inspectors from the AA wide body fleet for B-cks? I know that QC only does powerplant borescopes and NDT and detailed inspections of structures on the narrow body fleet B-cks. Are they changing that as well?

Another level of quality maintenenace out the door.
Getting closer to bare minimum maintenance operations.

boeing767mech,

Almost brings tears to my eyes, 26 years, and it seemed like all for not. I remember those days when I first walk through the hangar and I saw the guys working on the DC10s, they just seem bigger than life.  Now, I'm them, and I want the new AMTs to feel the same way I felt.  I want them to have pride in this career and American Airlines for that matter.  More importantly, I believe this can and will only happen with a new association.  That association is AMFA.

AMFA Now More Than Ever

I worked the DC-10 B-ck for a few bids, did the FedEx checks too in the LAX Superbay back in the 80's. That commercial brings back good memories.

You have to wonder what's down the road? What other functions will be lost that mechanics do now that they may not in the future?

So by getting rid of QA they are shifting their work and the extra responsibility on to the mechanics. More work, more responsibility for less pay. Well guys bring extra pens because instead of swinging tools you should be spreading ink. Better safe than sorry.

Bad idea, but I bet it looks good on paper! Kind of like all of the other asinine changes, you gotta love it.

Thats the USAir way? How pathetic. They been farming out their work for years, have 1/3 of M&E personnel than AA has and are in the process of cannibalizing our numbers down to bare minimums. If this is any indication on how our future will be at the new American all we have to do is look at USAir's past and history will repeat itself. Fasten your seat belts folks its going to be a rough ride.

thats what the pilots ordered!

We all can say stuff here we go, the end is near, what next.

But here is the chance to prove that no matter who looks at the aircraft the work still needs to get done

If they take QC/QA off the B checks and rely on the mechanics doing the work cards to take it upon themselves to inspect the aircraft. Then that is what should happen.

If that does not and the total average number of E58's generated goes drastically down then this will show the company that we did not need the inspectors any way.
This will show the bean counters that the way we do things here at AA was over kill and that they have better ways of doing it.

You can't go out the first day or so and write up every little thing, then say the more I write the less down time, this is stupid, if they don't care why should I, then they win.

There is contract language that says if we don't have the ability to complete the work and in the contract they give more than just a few reasons why, then they can outsource the work.

maybe they are testing us to see if this is the case.  If this happens we will have no one to blame but ourselves if any head count reduction happens at any "B" check station.

They gave us all a coin with the IAW class, which really says you're on your own. You have been notified of the new rules and been trained. It's all on YOU NOW.....

Less work and more down time if this is what you want then what ever the company does in the future is on every mechanic on the "B" check.

The TWU let them add this language to our contract so that they could outsource the work. The company is making changes they feel are better FOR THEM.

DON'T YOU THINK IT'S TIME FOR US TO DO THE SAME???

US MX work and program in general has been steller. Huge imrpovements were made after the last merger. I expect nothing but more of the same.

Well the way I see it our standards at AA are being lowered to USAir standards.
If you call yours stellar then we had a better than stellar program. Some of the changes I am seeing at AA are not improvements in on time departures. You can not convince me that things are changing for the better when I see more assigned workload delays. I see it as a way to reduce the manpower. Less internal oversight and more outsourcing.
