Sure, AA has flown (and still flies PHL-LHR) to LHR with 757s but that doesn't contravene my point, and that is that 757s are not an efficient use of scarce slots. I didn't say that 757s don't (or won't) fly to LHR, only that it's inefficient.WorldTraveler said:AA HAS used 757s to LHR; they were discontinued but it has been done. UA has 757s to LHR and DL has just added PHL-LHR 757 using the AA/US merger divestiture slot.
And yet, every summer, AA resumes flying to Paris from Boston. And BOS hasn't been an AA hub in like, forever. PIT is a former US hub and still has a fair amount of loyal customers. I doubt AA will fly to CDG from PIT, but I believe you may have over-stated the chances against such a flight. Paris has incredible appeal from Americans in the summer.WorldTraveler said:The chances that AA would start a point to point route (not from an AA hub in the US) to CDG is somewhere between zero and zilch. PIT-CDG works for DL because of the AF hub. AA would not try or succeed at trying to go up against DL/AF on a non-US hub route for AA or DL but with a JV partner for one on the other end.
If that's your guess, then you'd be incorrect, which isn't too rare. I did not post (nor did I imply) that AA does not fly to LHR with 757s. Thanks for playing.WorldTraveler said:ok.... so they still do. thanks for the update. I would guess FWAAA didn't realize that or else AA is intentionally being inefficient. or that is the right size aircraft to maintain a flight without putting too many seats in the market.
